7018 at 45 degrees

How would you weld a fillet weld using 7018AC with one side vertical and one side sloped at 45 degrees ? Weave and push uphill like V-up or drag like flat ?? Thanks

Reply:45 degree welds can be deceivingly difficult. i had a feller straiten me up once and tell me,"its really simple kevin, as long as you dont forget which way is "up". "there is a lot of truth in that. point the rod ever so slightly "up" and just follow the joint otherwise with a slight weave or just strait across, depending on desired bead size. just remember "up". Reply:If doing a multi-pass weld or a little wider weave you have to remember to keep the puddle horizontal while going up at the 45 otherwise your bead will sag on the down side and  have undercut on the top side. This takes some practice to remember. I wish I could show a diagram of what I mean. You want your weld to go like this --- even though the joint goes like this  /.

Reply:Seen as his previous post with photo's, he was welding on scrap and admitted he was practicing. I would "assume" he is practicing this procedure too? So read through the value added posts and skip the banter posts. Post up photo's of your practice pieces and I reasonably certain you will get the answers to your mistakes!
