Well ive got an old hoist a friend gave me problem is it leaks oil works perfectly fine while its full lol and after searching all over for a seal with no luck I figure I can get a replacement cylinder from HF I can get a manual 8 ton for 50+ a 20% off coupon or I can get the air over for a lil more what I'm wondering is there any reason not to go with the air over any reason a manual would be better I assume the air Jack can be used manual as well any opinions appreciated 350P 30A spool gun cut master 51 syncro 250 other stuff " take a dog off the street and make him prosper and he will not bite you sad the same cannot be said for man" i didnt use punctuation just to piss you off
Reply:I'd love to have an air-over-hydraulic cylinder for my hoist. I have the 12-ton air-over-hydraulic bottle jack and it works great. If I had a good excuse, I'd be buying that cylinder for mine. Hand cranking the hoist takes forever.KevKevin / Machine_Punk from The Aerodrome Studio - Lincoln PowerMIG 210 MP - Meco N Midget w/custom welding station - Vintage Victor 100Current Projects: The Aerodrome Studio
Reply:I've got the air over jack that your asking about, the air is ok for large/quick movements, such as when raising the engine up off of a stand to set in a vehicle. However, after that you'll need to use the manual release, and the hand jack for alignment any way. Yes, it has the manual jack built in also.Ed
Reply:I replaced the piston on mine with a HF one(manual), back when I was 19 and it is still working, 49 dollars well spent. I don't know the lifespan of the air ones. Dad has it now, I use the crane on my truck for that stuff now.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Take the old seal to a good hydraulic parts shop. I would be amazed if they could not match it for just a couple of bucks.- Tim

Reply:Minor item but certainly one of merit for me. When I need an extra hand my wife is capable of operating the air operated jack.
Reply:I love the air over hydraulic on mine. Absolutely worth it as far as I'm concerned. Instead of standing there pumping the jack for 10min to get the boom all the way up to pull something out of the back of the truck, it's about 10 sec of holding down the switch, hook everything up, hold the switch for a second to lift it up, then pull it out and lower it. Reply:I think air would be to fast for me. Many times I am moving stuff 1/16" at a time. Many of my friends like the double pump rams.
Reply:with the air you can also move it only 1/16" a pump too...just have to do it by hand.Lincoln SA 200 Lincoln Idealarc 300/300 TIG |
