Hello brothers, I am new to the forum but I have been reading responses you guys have been given and see you are a good group of minds. I have a Ranger 8 I bought a year ago with 160 hrs in excellent condition. It welds great and looks well taken care of. I last used it back in september while laid off and no problems with it. I just put fuel in, charged the battery and fired it up. Normally it idles good after warm-up but now it idles real rough and sounds like it wants to shut-off but still runs. I replaced the fuel filter and sprayed carb cleaner in it and still does it. If i flip it to high idle it works well. Can you help me please. Thank you.
Reply:Make sure all the screws holding the carb. together are tight. A leaking gasket.A vacuum leak will cause an engine to run bad a low RPM. Could also have a valve leaking. Compression test will tell. Some times a vacuum leak in the carb. can be found by spraying carb cleaner over the out side ans listen for any changes. Try pulling out the choke part way and see if it makes a difference. Engine with bad valve will run better on a partial choke.Good luck
Reply:Thank you for the help. I Had a loose screw on the carb that kept the idle from picking up. I cleaned the carb good and it works fine now. Thanks again. |
