Hi all, great site, I'm a newb here but I have actually been following many posts for some time now. I just picked up a practically unused Hypetherm 600 to complement my Miller 185 & I had a question about the finecut consumables.Basically I see that a 120303 "open" style shield is called for on the PAC 123 Torch which would imply that I have to manually hold a small distance off the work piece. My question is, could I use the CE shield (220326) so I could easily drag-cut & not have to worry too much about hold-off distance since, as a rookie, it will take some practice to learn the proper torch control & this would eliminate at least one variable.ThanksLast edited by HarrisFD; 01-25-2013 at 12:51 PM.
Reply:You are correct...the CE shield works fine for drag cutting as it holds about a .010" standoff for the torch....which electrically isolates the nozzle...minimizing double arcing. The newer upgrade torches for the 600 (Duramax...the same torch used on the Powermax65, 85 and 105 systems) has a special drag shield for the FineCut consumables developed specifically to prolong nozzle life.Jim Colt Hypertherm Originally Posted by HarrisFDHi all, great site, I'm a newb here but I have actually been following many posts for some time now.
