Has anyone made a rock bucket? Im thinking of making one to fit a skid steer type attachment on a new holland front loader..here is a pic of a simple design..any input on ideas or just buy one already made?Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:I priced one out for a guy a few years back.  Materials and cutting costs were going to be as high as buying one already done by a major manufacturer.  There was no room left for labor.  It was a design where all the teeth were cut from flat plate.  If I had a CNC plasma and could do all the cutting in house, it may have been doable. My name's not Jim....
Reply:We found a old rock bucket at an auction for $40.  I'll have to put a new cutting edge on it and we'll put a backing plate for a skidsteer on it.  I'd always worry about bending those forks on the front the way we use it.  I know rock pickers like that the teeth would get bent easily and they were a lot heavier than that.
Reply:I had one, unless you're plucking rocks out of just about sand, they clog up with dirt and any grass or small roots quickly becoming just a bucket picking up everything (nothing falls through). They're pretty cheap outta those NC attachment builders. That one had a 4" spacing on (vertical) cut 3/8 plate. I thought one with a hyd. vibrator might help it work better. Dry ground is a must.
Reply:We have 2 rock buckets similar to this except ours have round rod welded to the cutting edge with pinned on teeth. We love ours. They have approx 6" between the bars so they done plug and the teeth hold up well.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer

Reply:Those robo rock pickers look nice but they are heavy on a loader with the weight way out front. Good for picking up surface rocks but probably not for digging. My thoughts are that anything involving rocks should be simple and less moving parts the better.Millermatic 252millermatic 175miller 300 Thunderboltlincoln ranger 250smith torcheslots of bfh'sIf it dont fit get a bigger hammer
Reply:Robo picker looks like a goob idea, looks like it might deform easily though. I bought a rock sifter on ebay that cleans the sand resort beaches. Everything goes up a convyer belt and shakes across across a screen. It's meant for 8" or less rocks though. It's brand is "Cherrington" They were worth quite a bit when they had the big oil spill, I almost resold it back. They have a bigger model that is meant for dirt fields.  I have one that looks like the Robo picker for separating trash from sewage, a real messy job, called the RTS2000, but unfortunately a needed pretreatment. I guess you could use the robo picker as a gold trammel if the crops didn't pay off.Last edited by blackbart; 03-29-2015 at 01:51 PM.
Reply:After looking around and pricing materials im probably gone buy a rock bucket like this and as it gets bent up modify it to work better, they run about $875 to $1200..hopefully...Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
