I got to take home a sampler yesterday.Made by the Wens company somewhere in the deepest darkest part of Texas.I ran a few welds with it, but it's just not for me. I prefer either a standard green lens, or the yellowish color from my Jackson. BUT, if you like relatively high contrast viewing, this might be the lens for you. It tends to be a bit bright for me, even in the #10 shade (which I assume the sample was). I should think it would be good for low light levels associated with TIG, and some wire processes. However, if you do like these, they're available (at least at my LWS) for $40. I believe you can also buy them online,,,,dunno, check the website.http://www.wenscoolblueweldinglens.com/"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Hey farmersamm whats the odds of you catching a arc shot or two just purely out of curiosity. So far my favorite is the Athermal (Phillips safety) #12 or my grandpaws selstrom green # 12 both in glass.Ranger 250 thick stuffHobart Handler 140 not thick stuffthe pane and oxy setup
Reply:I can try when K'kins gets home from work. I think I may be able to do it with her holding the camera behind the lens, while I run a bead using my hood. Never have thought about how to get a video of welding."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:The $40 lens is discontinued the $20 lens is pretty good and they are made by Aulektro love them for stainless work.
Reply:I bought 2 of these over last couple months. Compared to the American optics in my opinion I don't see why the AO is still selling for 500-700 on eBay. I used this aulektro lense for the last boiler outage here and loved it. Only thing I noticed about it was when taking the lense out of the hood cleaning it and reinstalling in hood with new clear lenses you could tell no matter what used for cleaning it didn't like it. I always used pledge on my AO and worked flawlessly but for 25.00 shipped on eBay seller niterider I was impressed . Jeremy
Reply:By the time she got home it was too dark, and too cold, to try anything. So I did the best I could with a lamp."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Can this lens be shipped around to all the WW'ers to try out? I have been wanting to try one for some time now.12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829

Reply:I have a wenz lens, I love it. I will say that it is a little on the brightside for aluminum tig, but the clarity can not be beat. Reply:The lens is very pricey on the website. I can buy entire new shields, many pounds of rods ect. For $129. I'll stick with my speedglass.
Reply:Reading the few posts on here about the cool blue lens I see the owner didn't have a very good first impression.I tried one of the cool blue lens and like it. Very clear.Replaced an aulektro gold I was using, that replaced a gold phillips ( the older athermal they had). I just ordered 2 ice cool blue lens to try. They have sales for $99 -$109 pretty often.Pricey? yeah, but I think they are worth it.YMMV.Dave
Reply:I wanted to buy one, but dude doesn't answer his phone, return emails or offer much specific information on what he sells. I've gotten different answers from half a dozen different guys I know who have bought them.Everything from too dark to too light and bright. I have bad peripheral vision and don't really wanna spend $140 for one including shipping and have it either be way too bright or get one too dark and be in the same boat I was in with the electric helmets I've owned in the past.I would only buy one if it came with a no BS money back guarantee. I guess he offers some kind of return policy, but again, I can't get the guy to even email me back or pick up his telephone. Funny that I sell machinery for a living and if I never returned phone calls or bothered to answer questions, I probably wouldn't sell very many machines.I want one, but not if I gotta roll the dice to try it. I have a 40+ year old Lincoln Super Visibility ten shade in a 50 yr old Fibre Metal helmet that works real well. Think I'll keep it around for awhile IMHO of courseExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
Reply:You have a good point. I tried the first one as a gamble, pure and simple. I've never tried an old usa Lincoln super visibility. Now when found on eBay they are in the same price range as the wens lens.I bought a shade 11 one of these lens....Hate it!!!!http://www.ebay.com/itm/DEEP-COBALT-...item3f494b30e3Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:Originally Posted by 7A749I had a brand new SV lens in the sleeve and sold it ten years ago like a dummy. I came across this one I use now in a lot of lenses I've had for quite awhile and started using it. No markings on it other than 10 shd. I was under the impression they all said Super Visibility along the top, but mine doesn't. It has the same orange tint the other one I sold had and a long time Pipeline guy here confirmed it was indeed a SV when I asked him about it. Everything in the bag I got from this lot of stuff was circa '60's or so. Wish there would have been a pile of AO Optical Cool Blues in there with it! Whatever the case, the view is sharp and it is easy on my eyes. The damn peripherals are the killer for me now. Seeing the puddle is no problem, it's the joint line or groove, etc that always drops out of view on me. I have a very nice Speedglas helmet, but I like the fixed shade passive lens better. No games, no flashes, no issues. Just drop your hood and light up.In your opinion, is the ten shade Wens Ultra real bright? Like I said, I've heard a wide range of opinions on the same shade. Mainly that it's real bright tho and an eleven shade would be closer to a ten in a regular lens.If I can ever get ahold of the guy and get a few questions answered, I'll buy one. I passed on a brand new Cool Blue about seven years ago for $75. Didn't know much about them then. Obviously

(My shop has poor lighting)And what do you know, one of the inside clear lens still had the peel wrap on it.So I peeled it off, put it all back together, grabbed some 7018, and started welding.Wow.It's clear.I like it.Def recommend....
Reply:If the AO lens is such a well like lens why don't they make them again?
Reply:Originally Posted by RuffneckDaveNot real bright. I'm content with the #10. But I've used 10 's in everything I've tried. IMO very clear. For me it's easier to see where you're headed and not just the puddle.
Reply:I bought one of the automatic blink blues and love it ! It's super clear and the thing I really like is its not super sensitive like my miller , the sun doesn't trigger it only the arc and when you grind will it darken . |
