Younger brother (member melonhead) needed two new fireplace grates - only instructions were put the logs in straight instead of sideways for easier filling, and make it simple - and cheap - lol He burns 8-10 cords per year so I used 1/2" solid bar - should last several years.I started with my usual fully annotated CAD drawings More pics ....Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 04-05-2015 at 11:26 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:A pic of my CNC bender I mark where they go at the outer block for repeatability - often I clamp them to make sure they stay on bends past 45 degrees.Careful attention gives decent bends Tack to the table and weld it up.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:I always lay them on there side to load, less likely to tip over. There isn't a lot of room in there to feed the wire thru, my only complaint about them. That's about where I run mine for 20 volts. Did you do the 10 second test with yours?

Reply:Does yours have high and low speed? I think 700 ipm or so is max, way more than I ever needed.
Reply:Yeah, it has hi/low, by the time I got up to 60 on the high side it was putting out 460 ipm - that was well over what I needed Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.
Reply:They look very nice but I don't think they will last as long as you think. If you want one to last a real long time then try some grade 6 rebar. I built one for my Dad out of 1" and it has lasted over 20 years now. He goes through about 3 1/2 cords of wood a year.
Reply:Thanks for the tip Bob - rebar would look good too Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Good idea on the logs go in straight instead of sideways. To bad I my fireplace wont do that.8-10 cords a year  I use about 4 a year and thats alot around here.Looks like your secatary knows what time it is.
