I have about 3000 tubes to weld up each month and need to clean the scale off of each end before welding. Pipes range from 1.5 inch OD to 3.25 OD wall thickness is approximately .125 thick. The longest pipe is 2 ft. Does anyone have a good way to do this by machine. Looking for ideas ThanksTWS
Reply:Put a stainless steel wire wheel on your bench grinder, and have at it. Or better yet, have a helper do it. Attached ImagesDont pay any attention to meIm just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Pipe and tube belt sander. Maybe something like a Metabo?
Reply:I would build a jig to hold an angle grinder with a stripper wheel on it (they remove the scale without removing material), with a guide tube for the pipe you have to prep. Slide the pipe in the guide tube, turn it a full rotation and you're done.
Reply:The smaller 2'' and under would fit in a pipe machine.
Reply:Im thinking i'd be inclined to strip the mill scale with acid. or media blast it.
Reply:What do you mean a pipe machine
Reply:I have a old 400, used for cutting and threading pipe. I rotate pipe and use sanding disc, flapper wheel , or wire wheel on grinder. Goes quicker with the pipe rotating. Bought the machine for $250.00 and used it for cutting and threading too. Attachment 1423031The newer 300 modelAttachment 1423051 |
