I'm super happy with this thing.  Just sold my HH140 to upgrade to the 210 MVP because I needed something a little hotter to work on my jeep.  I finally got around to making a 12/3 cord as I don't have 220 in my garage.   Found some 1/4" scrap and pushed this weld.   Just straight - no oscillation.  found some 5/16" tonight and cranked it up. I'm a total newbie so this looks great for me Attached ImagesHobart 210 MVP
Reply:You should cut that in half and polish then etch it!
Reply:I'll give it shot tomorrow - I have some naval jelly.  I welded 1/8" on 110 and again on 220 using the recommended settings.  It was certainly hotter on 220... I kinda feel my HH140 was a little hotter than the 210 while on 110VHobart 210 MVP
Reply:You can't really trust the machine settings to be accurate from one machine to another. Your welds look great but try twisting your wrist side to side while welding to make sure to get fusion to the toes.
Reply:Nice bead. That last pic looks just like 7018.Sweet.Last edited by AKweldshop; 03-10-2015 at 01:55 AM.Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Reply:Ok - here it is (on the left).  I did bevel the corner on the vertical piece about 45* - not quite as much as it looks in the pic.  Is this LOF on the inside corner?  Kinda looks like it to me :-(. Oh well - I don't mind more practice.   I'm diggin it!Hobart 210 MVP
Reply:Ya doesn't look like you got the best penetration. Looks like it good some pen on the bottom piece. Try sanding it down better next time. Good job tho. DSW will let you know what's up.

Reply:looks like that thing welds very nice!! Word of caution though. If you're running any bigger than a 20 amp breaker you'll want more than a 12ga cord. 10ga is good for 30amp and 8ga for 50amp.-DoogieMiller 350PMiller Trailblazer 325 EFI w/ Excel PowerLincoln LN25 suitcase welderXMT 304/22a feederMiller Syncrowave 350LXMiller EconotigHobart Handler 140(2) Uni-Hydro 42-14Hypertherm 65 plasmaWEBB Gap bed lathe
Reply:You may have been putting too big of bead and that limited your penetration in the root. Also on the vertical piece there isn't as much fusion as on the bottom piece. That's where weaving/twisting your wrist helps.

Reply:Don't bevel anything next time. Have fun.
Reply:Originally Posted by sea bassI don't quite understand - is it 20A on 110v therefore I should be good for 40A on 220 since it's basically splitting it in half and running it down two separate wires?I'm pretty sure I have two 20amp breakers running my 220V...does that make sense?  I'm not proficient in home wiring by any means

Reply:Attachment 1038621Attachment 1038631on one of the pics you can't see the single root pass. This is 1/4 cold rolled steel. The one side with more weld had a root pass 2 stringers and a weave to cover everything up. Ran at 200 amps and less. #5 cup 10 cfh 1/16 rod 3/32 red tungsten pos 17 torch. Not really sure why the naval jelly didnt show the weld better then sea basses did. Any ideas?in the second pic on the root pass weld is a paper towel piece in the middle
Reply:My hobby eye says don't bevel - it's hard to get into that root - and keep the arc at the very front of the puddle.  Try that and then take another look and adjust.  Nice to see someone cut open a weld.  I'm guilty of not doing it.
Reply:Your pics aren't all showing up Moto...just the one i can see looks like you got super deep penetration on your thumb side but etching doesn't seem to be as clear like you said.   I used a super fine sanding disc on my die grinder, 5 minutes of naval jelly, and them had to play with the light to get a good contrast.Hobart 210 MVP
Reply:what kind of sand rolls did you use? Do you know what grit?
Reply:[QUOTE=motolife what kind of sand rolls did you use? Do you know what grit?[/QUOTE]I start out at 80, then 120, then 320 I believe.  Just the little 2" discs - not sure on brand.Last edited by sea bass; 03-14-2015 at 07:10 PM.Hobart 210 MVP
