Hey! tought i post another recent project i worked on. It took place right before the winter settled in here (mind you it doesn't look like a typical winter right now). As i am canadian, from quebec to be more precise, we get a s**t load of snow during the winter months. Hence the high demand for snow removal equipment. My boss got a hand on 2 very very very sad snowblowers manufactured from a local company. They have been used only 2 seasons and god, they seem old as f***! Rusted out, paint scaling... they cried for help!(pronovost x-pro has a hydraulic attachment on the the front so as to gently scrape in a reverse motion when facing garage doors and such)Here are some pictures of the saddest snowblower ever... (notice the long face...) Attached ImagesLincoln Ranger 250Lincoln LN-25 Across-The-Arc FeederMobile Unit / Workshop (drill press, air, welding, horiz bandsaw...)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Reply:more pics of the health deprived machine... but this time, in the heat of the shop, taken good care of by my sweet sweet fatherly hands (ahahahaha)some coarse cleaning prior to sandblast and a victim's plan has been established..... Reply:sandblasting made things better than expected, still, alot of work is uncovered. Attached ImagesLincoln Ranger 250Lincoln LN-25 Across-The-Arc FeederMobile Unit / Workshop (drill press, air, welding, horiz bandsaw...)[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]
Reply:our typical "working primer paint" has been applied to the sandblasted pieces... lots of fixing, straightening, dings and dents correcting, welding (my boss like to hide minor defects under new material - i don't like it since it adds considerable amount of weight to the piece) New bushings, pins, cylinders have been redone, new teflon bar (god i waited for that teflon stock to arrive so i could finally gave it a new shaped and resting place!) Reply:checked everything to see if it was working according to manufacturer's standard's, new paint job and ordered the original decals from the factory...the result: less than half price machinery with considerable profits! Vat more du dju vant? sorry about the crappy night shots, i stayed late that night.....thanks! Reply:Looks new again, nice job!! I to get alot of snow, 150+ inches so far this year and a Snow blower does the best job.
Reply:How does a snowblower get in that bad a shape in two seasons? You would have to really work at that. What did they do, clean them with salt water? That said, nice job fixing everything up! Look great.

Reply:Originally Posted by bordenI have a simple explanation... i took a while to figure it out but i did. Pronovost (the makers of the blower) didn't use paint primer at all on this specific machine series. I guess it's been forgotten along the way...In addition to that, they tried a new paint - from china with love - and the end result is a piece of almost unprotected steel tractor implement! What a rip-off for the buyers hee!
Reply:Originally Posted by 4shortsWhat you had on that blower originally was powder coating not paint. That's why it pealed so bad. It's usually very dificult to sandblast off but you did a great job on that blower and you'll get many years of reliable service out of it now. Insadently. Basically everything is powder coated these days. I mortally hate the stuff.
Reply:The paint Quality can be nothing less than Intentionally Substandard Workmanship...I've used Pronovost and Normand blowers for 23 years commercially and while their quality of product is excellent....But as far as Their quality Control with paint I can only be left to assume the shoddy workmanship is designed to fail to ensure they keep the replacements rolling out of the factory....Lets Face it...NOBODY that has had this ongoing problem for this long can Possibly Be That Stupid !!!!!!!  I personally Oil undercoat my NEW Tractors And Blowers with the same:rust Ck product that I do all of my vehicles with....Nothing gets washed all winter....I Hot wash all the stuff off Each Spring And then Recoat it all ...EVERYTHING Everywhere except the Rubber, Glass and Fiberglass......It Helps considerably But for the prices we pay them for their damn blowers They should give us paint that performs like the product its on....Soooo Charge us a hundred bucks extra......Give us a Quality Paint on Your Quality Built Product !!!!!!!!
Reply:That or powder coat. I don't paint anything anymore. If it fits in their oven, it goes to the powder coater. I totally agree on some manufacturers cutting corners on finishing. PC rules as far as I'm concerned. Oh, this thread is four years old Expert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948
