Who sells a good plasma cutter with built in compressor? I think I made a mistake by selling my hobart 250ci. I didn't think I needed it and sold it, but I realized I'm pretty lost without it and projects take a lot longer. The hypertherm is at my dads house since I don't have a compressor and can't find one that will meet the requirements and not be 60 gallons. Space is getting tight. Or should I sell it and get a plasma that runs off less than 6scfm @ 90psi? And get a smaller compressor? The 110v on the hobart was fantasic as well! I don't do anything really thick anyhow.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:Not against it at all, but the requirements are 6scfm at 90psi and the only thing that will do that is a 60 gallon. I have a 1 car garage so space is a premium and I only have 1 220v outlet.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer
Reply:I don't know if you are able to store tools outside your garage (back yard with a shed? I don't know if you're suburban or urban etc), but if you're tight on space inside and you want to conserve your one 220V outlet, how about a gas engine powered air compressor?  I could store something like this in the back yard and it would not need your 220v outlet.Something like thisRIDGID 9-Gal. Reply:Good idea, but I don't have a shed or anything nor could I build one as I am in a rental for the time being. Once I move to a bigger place of my own that is the plan for an air compressor outside the garage.Torchmate 2x2 CNC with Flashcut CNC controlsHypertherm Powermax45 Esab ET220i Razorweld 195 MigRazorweld 200ac/dc TigTormach 770, Tormach xstechRazorweld, Vipercut/Vipermig, SSC Foot Pedal Dealer

Reply:When I was looking for a compressor I had some of the same constraints as you except my shop is in my basement.  Was really hesitant to try and wrestle a 60 gallon down my stairs.  One option that I found through a local compressor company was that they would build me a 3HP 12cfm/90psi compressor on a 30 gallon tank. You'd still need 220v though.  I think you're going to find that 2HP is about all your going to get out of a 110v circuit, and it will be taking all of a 20A breaker at that.  You're kind of in a quandry.  220v plasma cutter and a 110v compressor or a 110v plasma and a 220v compressor.  Is the 220v used for anything else besides the plasma?  Perhaps swapping out the 220v breaker to a larger one (if the wiring will support it)?
Reply:How long of cuts do you plan on making...?     Unless you're making 6' cuts on 3/4 plate, just get one of those 120V 30 gallon units on wheels.  The tank will buffer enough for most cuts, and in reality the 5.5 cfm@90 psi most of them offer is more than enough for a machine that "recommends" 6 cfm@ 80 psi.
Reply:"Nope, it doesn't have enough cfm. "Are you sure??Just a thought but....  If you go to Lowe's and get the 30 gal. Kobalt compressor you may find it has all you need.  Just a guess. If it doesn't work you can return it within 30 days?  No questions asked.Good luck.Bob

Reply:There is a style of compressor you might be interested in checking out. They are called Wheelbarrow Air Compressor w/ Electric Motor  110 ac, small and portable with grunt. Cannot recommend not something I use or own, just adding to the conversation.Greg
Reply:Always love to spend other peoples money   At the price of that Kobalt you'd be better off with something like this http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/...sor/p3694.html.  It's 120/240v. and 6.7cfm@90psi.  Not sure if it's less psi at 110v.
Reply:Gamble - Be on the lookout in your area for something used like this http://bend.craigslist.org/tls/3610020458.html.  I would think there'd be a ton of them in the your area.

Reply:Gamble - The first CL listing is a direct drive and not going to give you the PSI that you're seeking.  Stay away from direct drives,,,,now repeat it wirh me....stay away from direct drives   As for the second CL listing....if you are even remotely considering a 60 gallon compressor look beyond this one.   If you buy a 60 gallon you should buy one that you will want to keep when you eventually move.  Look for one with a cast iron pump.  In my area there are always CH and IR's for sale on CL, something like this http://portland.craigslist.org/clc/tls/3624308371.html.  This is the IR SSL3 model.  You can get this brand new for $600+ at your local compressor dealer.  Another one to recommend is this http://salem.craigslist.org/tls/3615587631.html.  I don't think Lowes carries this model anymore, I think the current Kobalt 60 gallon is only putting out 10cfm @ 90 PSI.Am curious why you're considering the 240v, 60 gallon option based on your initial post? One other piece of advice...go visit one of your reputable/local air compressor dealers.  They often have trade-in items for resale.
Reply:Just for giggles I went to the Chicago CL to see what was available in your area.  Here are a few of what I would be looking at.http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwi/tls/3653225067.htmlhttp://chicago.craigslist.org/sox/tls/3646075286.htmlhttp://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/tls/3641857360.htmlAn the best value so far, http://chicago.craigslist.org/nwc/tls/3640021467.htmlReally surprised at the lack of used compressors that are reasonably priced in your area.  There were several listig where the sellers asking price was near the same money for a brand new compressor with warranty.
