Morning fellas/ladies. WELL i must say i am stepping out of my typical comfort zone of pipe work.... have to pick out a new mig machine for our shop as we have some large scale structural stuff coming up. I dont typicaly do any mig welding other than cavitation work up at the hydraulic plants. So i need some guideance as to what might be the best machine for our shop to do this fabrication work. We are working with some heavier parts, 1/2" plate, 12" sch 80 pipe which = roughly 1/2", will be required to run .045, 90-10 gas mix. All fillet welds. We need somthing that will pump out enough heat to adequately perform these welds. Will be a variety of all position work also. From what i can tell..... the lincoln 350MP should be the machine for us? as that seems to be the last compact machine miller has to offer. Thanks!
Reply:If you want a more versatile setup, consider the invertec v350 and wirefeeder combo (or XMT 350 for the miller version). That way you have another light weight stick / tig welder if the mig work dries up. Both those machines have pulse options if that is of interest (particularly out of position). If you don't need the portability, the 350MP you stated does all these things as well, so you can't really go wrong.IMHO JasonXMT 350 MPA Dynasty 280DXSuitcase 8RC / OptimaSpoolmatic 30AThermco Ar / C02 mixerAssorted O/A gear
Reply:thanks for the reply, yes portability and compact size isnt very crucial we have a brand new power mig 256 right now that we bought to try out and it just quite isnt cutting it on the heavier stuff so well be trading it back in on i guess the 350MP. Sounds like it will do what we need it too. Iam used to running stainless wire during cavitation. Have never ran 90-10 mix how is it compared to say a 75-25?
Reply:Here's a couple of Jody's Videos on the PowerMig 350mp. check them out....http://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...lding-co2.htmlhttp://www.weldingtipsandtricks.com/...ing-pulse.html
Reply:Since you are going to be doing heavy structural steel and out-of-position welding, you may want to consider gas-shielded flux-core (aka dual-shield) if it is permissible in your shop.  .045 wire with 90/10 gas is a combination usually used for spray-transfer MIG, which is not much use out-of-position unless you are using pulse. The 350MP and the Invertec V350 PRO have pulse capabilities, but are older designs. If pulse MIG is a mode you are going to use extensively, you may want to look at newer machines like the Power Wave S350 or S500. Pulse MIG has undergone some major improvements in recent years and these machines may be worth a look. Also later models from Fronius and OTC.JohnA few weldersA lot of hammersA whole lot of C-clamps
Reply:I have a PM300, which evolved into the PM350(software update I'm told), and it will do both stick and DC TIG.  S/F....Ken M
Reply:Run 045 Outershield 71 Elite straight co2 with the 256 all the 350 will do is waste your money. It is a great machine and has pulse and stick, you only need pulse on stainless.  Find a 250 or larger AC/DC transformer for stick and gouging.
Reply:We have run tons of Outershield. 045 &1/16 all with co2  on the trade center and D1:5 allows only co2 onFCM work.
Reply:Good evening all. If I may jump in I need some help. I have the invertec 350 pro and I have all Bernard guns and many consumables/ nozzle etc.  I want to use a Miller spoolmatic 30A or 30 Pro Spool gun that can use my same tips. So i am researching and it seems there is a way and I have not got it all down exact with 14 pin and voltage such. Think i shouldn't need the WC 115 or WC 24 etc etc   blah.  OK breathe....... ahhh.  Now i think I am seeing that my LF-72 will be able to use a push pull  type gun maybe? Heck if I run 1/16 5356 alum wire i can send it down standard 15 ft MIG torch very successfully. but i seem to have erratic wire feed speed now and again so...It seems to make my welds kind rough some and have to play with all  a bit.  Another deal here. In the morning I will have 3 brand new 300A 15 ft BTB guns and I intend to chop one in half and make a 8 foot stinger. I asked a guy at Tregaskiss and he said it could be done on Bernard guns. btw its no issue I got all 3 guns for like 80 apiece so i am taking a chance on one. I have Seriously modified the old Tregaskiss Tough Gun with jump liners of mixed sorts and conventional older liners etc and can weld but i think quality is suffer. OK all this said Can I just get a Push Pull gun on my LF 72 feeder with 350 pro and make this fly. Other than the high cost of the gun I would try. I was under Impression that there was NO Way! to have this invertec 350 attach to any push pull capable feeder? I have done all above with EXTREME unorthodox mods trying out. Was it this simple all alone? Thanks! I also have a LN-25 Pro suitcase  and wanted  A dual feed unit originally Which I may trade up these feeders to an 84 dual or 10 dual feeder once i find if it's possible to have my dual process  with ease of switch gas and seamless ease of switch like I WANTED  from beginning!!  So as to be ready for switching material stainless , mild steel, Alum easily. phew  OK pardon ramble I am so frustrated I bought a piece at a time trying to attain  this in vain and have spent enough to have bought a full ready NEW Miller Invision  dual cart dual 74 package with both guns I am dying!!Wish I came here first it happened all fast
Reply:The 350mp is a single phase machine. If your serious about welding structural steel, my choice would be the v350 pro with a Ln feeder and run 045 dual shield wire with 75/25. The v350 will run on 3phase and will outperform the 350mp.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720

Reply:Thank you Dave.If there is anything true here is hard to understand and frustrating was the status past few days. Please pardon, This was not my intended "post" as I had been on the road for 30 hrs or so on strange trouble calls. Staring at blacktop wishing I could sit and write it ALL down for review mad because my trip was way out of ordinary. During trip I conversed and got a lot of info on the Miller spool gun compatibility (which is actually EASY maybe as of last news).  I actually in haste plopped in chair here logged in here finding much more. Well that sparked it and was "explosively" writing a thousand notes in my head pouring out, thus...this rough to myself plus everyone. I'm laughing and embarrassed but that's the way It worked out man! I have never posted here and reading threads I verified new info that concurred and some not... Long story short I just blew this out in the rough while info was fresh and actually was gonna edit all with coherence and new info hopefully. Nope!! I was called out again!Dave, the whole time gone I knew I had left a complete incoherent mess and TWICE! I appreciate your patience at least to muddle through. Again I just got here and have been waiting to clarify. This moment I am going to take five and if all would bear with me I can stop a sec and be right back. I would please ask anyone frustrated or otherwise after my ramble hang on see if i can clarify. I apologize and do need a hand because i have very reliable people say that some is possible, some not. I would beg a fresh start Being new here and haven't got Thread management down. I did double this up in  Lincoln? forum i think, and should had slowed. New thread composing this or Combining /joining the thread together across forums after revision may have cost everyone a trip to the therapist today! Would Thank the admins and group for all.
