Reply:I've been looking for a way to balance lawnmower blades. I saw one that used a large ball bearing and you placed the blade onto the ball bearing. Then put the bearing onto a polished level piece of steel plate. Your way looks great. Reply:I like the simplicity of your homemade balancer. Grandslam99, I had a look at the Magna-Matic an that is really slick. I couldn't see how it worked until I watched the video. I imagine you'd need to be doing a fair number of blades to justify the cost.
Reply:Thanks. I filled some pretty I knarley nicks so balancing was needed. Not many places open at 3 am so I used what I had.
Reply:Ahh... nice to see the label "USA."
Reply:Assembled in usa, with foreign and domestic components.
Reply:The guy in the video is such a geek!Lab coat and heavy work gloves and safety glasses? Gimme a break....Yaknow now a days it seems everyone on youtube is wearing those blue medical gloves.Your simple blade balancer looks like a great idea. Sure beats my usual method where I clamp a nail in the vice

Reply:Ive used a cone type balancer for over 50 years now.It will check grinding wheels for balance. Not talking about out of round.Out of balance wheels run rough. It would be hard to fix a knife that was way out as you have to grind and recheck several times.Cone balancer is fast and costs little.Mine is die cast, new ones come in plastic.
Reply:Gloves and safety glasses are needed when grinding knives. You can get cut putting knives back on the mower.

Reply:I mounted a ball bearing to a horizontal shaft bolted to my workbench (bearing same diameter as center hole of mower blade), and place the blade on the ball bearing. Quick and cheap, and sensitive to out-of balance..

Reply:My dad always just rested the center of the blade on the edge of his knife and ground the heavy side until it sat level.
