I was bored and had some time on my hands, so I did a few welds with what I am capable with at home. All tests were made on 1/4x3x4 inch A36 coupons, cut out of the mid point, polished and acid etched.. I traced the weld depth as they didn't shop on camera very good. I will probly do a "hammer test" later... What does all this prove??? Not a whole lot! Just outa curiousness of myself.first two: .035 er70s-6 20v 195IPM 100% CO2 Attached ImagesLast edited by MISSING LINK; 05-28-2014 at 03:50 PM.TOOLS AND TOYSSMAW Mid States Inc. Reply:Interesting results.  Looks like 7018 penetrated more than 6011.  What kind of acid did you use? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Reply:Thanks, the two I was most wanting to compare was the 7018ac vs. 7018dc. Both were run with a standard “DC” style 7018 that has AC current optional…. I have found that not all run the same. One brand WA. Alloy runs great on either current, better on DC naturally, also it has been the smoothest for AC vertical up… but the standard 7018 from Hobart didn’t like AC… Lincolns standard Excal 7018 ran fine on AC flat, horizontal, overhead,,, but not as smooth going vertical, but like butter on DC naturally. All rods penetrated into the parent metal at least .015 which I have always been told is a minimum. I am sure had I ran the 6011 at 135 amps it would have done better, 125 is where it seems to have a nice balance.... I used to have some 1/8 7024 but that is long gone.. Beside ChuckE2009 & Jody have already run a lot of that.... I usually switch to spray or 7014 if I have a need for speed..TOOLS AND TOYSSMAW Mid States Inc. Reply:This is a common test to do in Great Britain instead of bending coupons like we do in North America.  Great that you posted for everyone to see.  I din't know a single acid wojuld show.... the Procedure Handbook has formulae but they are mixes of more than one acid.
Reply:I think more than one acid would be better. it took 2 apps to get results.
