Looking for a wire machine to be powered by my bobcat. Was pretty set on a lincoln 210mp. Was going to make a 25' power cord to give some portability from the machine. Interested in trying tig somewhere down the road but not essential. Found a new looking thermal arc vs212 on CL. Looks new and comes with a new Bernard gun. Seller throwing in gas reg too. Price is several hundred less than the 210mp. The suitcase would be a little more hardy to working outside Id think. Any problems with this machine? What machine would you recommend?Cliffs:210mp or thermal arc vs212 for mig. Powered by my bobcat. ThanksBrett

Reply:A few factors would be what thickness of material and type of material. A Bobcat is a good generator but a fair welding power source. On thinner material the bobcat can be hard to get the voltage right. If you are doing stainless you might run into this as well. On heavy material you have more power and duty cycle with the bobcat. When working with lighter material, like 1/8" or less I prefer using my TA 181I running of of a Ranger 9. For heavier stuff or higher duty cycle I prefer the VS feeder. With the 210mp you have the option of running it off of the electrical service that may be available.

Reply:I would go with the 210mp or check out the thread on the reduced pricing on the Tweco Fabricator 181 and 211.
Reply:If you are outside, I go with a VS feeder and a Bobcat.. Weld down well enough for outside work using self-shielded wire..Probably would not use gas outside anyway, and you could get much better prices on 12 inch spools then the 8 inch spools the 210 take. At $70.00 a spool for wire, you will save a lot of money long term..Probably hold up way better too.  The bobcat, and VS feeder is made for tough working conditions.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
