Hi guys!My Name is Oliver, I'm a 28 year old German. I work in IT and don't even weld.Wow, what am I doing here, then?Well, my grandpa from northern Germany used to get those ceramic backings used for arc welding from Asia and sell them to a wharf in his region. Lately the wharf changed their processes and doesn't need those ceramic backings anymore.Since he knew this day would come and because he made a decent profit during the years of doing business with the wharf, he actually just wanted to dispose the ceramic backings.Being his rather poor grandson, of course I can't just let this happen without at least having tried to find someone who might still appreciate those things.Long story short:- 6 pallets with 13080 pieces (=78,480 ceramic backings total)- a few hundred of the metal rails to put them in (see attached picture)Alright. If you are interested, or if you know anyone who might be, just let me know. Attached Images
Reply:How much are you asking for them? Euro's or USD either way i can convert. Most importantly are they dry!!! Do any of them have a aluminum tape on them that holds it to the plates?I'm going to do the thing that God put Galen Beasley on this Earth to do:Have Salon quality hair and weld.Nothing like a good cup of coffee and the smell of 6010 burning in the morning. 971-204-3444 cell API ASME Structural NDT and Repair
Reply:Well, so far I'm just going for the best offer. I'd like my grandpa to sell as many of them for as much money as possible, of course. So, how many would you potentially buy and how much would you be willing to pay?The two samples seem absolutely dry to me. If there's some scientific value for the level of dryness, I can check with my grandpa. But since I know he has them stored in a proper location (where he has to pay for them to be stored), I'm very confident there's no problem with that.If you're seriously interested in buying a decent amount for a fair price, I guess my grandpa wouldn't mind to send a sample for you to check.I'm going to ask him if there's the aluminum tape you mentioned. This might take a bit, because it's after 10pm here, so I'll give him a call tomorrow.
Reply:Alright, I finally have some time to answer. Sorry, I've been quite busy at work.- Each pallet is 1200mm long and 800mm wide. Standard European pallets. That's about 47.24x31.50 inches, BTW.- Each pallet contains 60 corrugated fiberboard boxes- One fiberboard box holds 218 ceramic backings- The ceramic backings weight 70g each- One pallet weights about 940kg (about 2,072 pounds)- The wharf would have paid a total of €27,000 for all 6 pallets (currently about $34,000)- The ceramic backings are dry and they're burnt in some way so they can't absorb waterAbout the aluminum foil: According to my grandpa, that would be for a process where you stick the backings to the metal instead of using metal rails to hold the backings in place. His backings are meant to be used with those re-usable metal rails, so there's no aluminum foil.Of course I don't expect anyone to pay about $5,670 for each of those pallets, as the German wharf would have done. Just let me know what amount you're interested in and what you'd be willing to pay.Greets,Oliver |
