Ok, my high school auto shop teacher has a HH175 that he said he will let go for $40(schools property) I bet I can get it for $30, he says it strikes an arc, but no matter what speed or voltage the feed IS consistent, but it will lose the arc and keep pushing, shen it will light off again, wash rinse repeat, am I right thinking his could be an improper ground conn. inside the machine? I'm great with electronics, schematics and general circuit knowledge, our district's vocational school took a look and said it would cost more to fix than the welders worth, I would propbably pay 350-400for it in working condition, a pc board is $200, and that and the transformer are the only parts that cannot be ordered from Digikey or anything, so is it worth $30-40 on this gamble? could always part it outSent from my SM-G920V using Tapatalk
Reply:I have read on here about problems with the board on the 175.  But even if you can't fix the current board, it looks like you could have a welder for about $230.

Reply:Yep, board for 200 bucks or so. If it's a feed problem it is likely the Q1 transistor, and can be soldered in if you are a DIY man. Ask me how I know lol. If you are getting one for that price, it's worth that in scrap alone even if you can't fix it. Don't hesitate! Get it. Even with the feed stuck on high mine laid down some nice beads on the thick stuff. Well worth the $30
Reply:If it does indeed turn out to be a board issue you might look into having the existing board repaired. A few here have used York Electronics. Maybe someone will chime in who has had a repair made by them.
