A buddy I work with just got a new LN-25 Extra torque model to run off his Ranger 305 G. And the local welding supply has him convinced that he needs to get Lincolns "Jumper Plug" cable accessory if he wants the two machines to work "right". Does anyone have any experience with this jumper plug, or are there any benefits to having it? As far as I can tell it just a 14 pin connector, but there is no connection for it on the back of the LN. We hooked it the only way I know how, just hook stinger to the lead coming out the back of the LN, and swap the leads for straight polarity. It seemed to run ok to me (for 211 wire)  thanks
Reply:The LN 25 pro comes in two basic models beside standard and extra torque.Standard and duel power. The standard is just an across the arc model. The duel power will run across the and with  the cable it will run like a 42 volt feeder powered by the welder. It senses the 42 volts and reconnects itself for operation on 42 volts.be careful not to get the wire speed to fast. you may get some strange pulsing of the wire.voltmeter will flash a high and low number and the drive rolls may even stop for a split second. Just slow the wire speed down until it welds right. Have seen this happen with 0.068 wire set to weld at 20 to 21 volts and 130 ipm.Just slow down to 100 ipm. and it will weld right. This was with a standard torque model. What ever is going on, is in the welder and it is a design problem and there is no repair.I know I worked on one of these
Reply:The only LN-25 I used had a smaller 10' mini ground to supply power to the wire feeder.  Is this what you mean by a "jumper?"  Apart from that, it just pluged directly onto the work lead coming from the machine (though obviously the regular ol' ground was connected  ).
Reply:I had a 305g years ago, and I don't think you need a jumper plug kit. It just turns on the contactor, and it has a panel switch for that. I used  a Easb vs and a older Miller S-24S feeder with no problems. LN-9 too. Anyway, I have a LN-25 pro, now, but not a ranger. The LN-25 pro seems to get a lot of bad press, but it sure works for me. It welds like a plug in feeder for the most part, Used it on My Esab inverter, Thermal-arc inverter, and even on my little Thermal Scout 170 engine drive. .035 self shielded wire. Works great. I have a LF-72 feeder to compare the non-control cable arc to the cable feeder. I also used the LN Pro on my powerwave C-300. in the #5/6 mode . I will have to try my buddies Dual power unit when I get down there in a few weeks. He runs his off of a V-350. Seem like the remote voltage control does not light up on the feeder, so he can't see where he is. I believe he mostly uses his Standard LN-25 and a remote amptrol instead. The Cable model will support the push/pull guns,so it will have some use for him.Esab/Lorch ET-220iEsab 160i caddyThermal LM-200 Lincoln feedersThermal Pee-Wee 85sThermal 60i- 3phase /RPC powered (Beast)Thermal Drag-gun 35CINE 1500 Klutch 140i
