Aside from the Ford vs Chevy brand debate how do these machines compare? Are they basically the same thing just different brands or does one offer some advantages over the other?
Reply:Member here Stick-man has run both side by side. If I remember correctly he liked the V350-Pro the best.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400
Reply:Just a matter of what you like.Truthfully, I haven't run either so I can't say as to their performance, but one thing that may be of benefit is the fact that the Miller unit is a great deal more user friendly as far as accessories go. Just about any wire feeder Miller has ever manufactured will run off the XMT with a standard 14 pin control cord setup, as well as HF starter boxes, pulsing units for both TIG and MIG, several spool gun/weld control combinations as well as voltage sensing wire feeders.I'm not knocking Lincoln's version, but their accessories are often machine specific and usually very expensive. If you have a set up like CEP's, then you won't ever have to worry about it, but if you're putting together a complete package, you're going to have to get the correct connecting feeder, or buy/make adapter plug sets for them. I'm not a big fan of their spool gun offerings either, but that's a matter of personal preference.I have run many Miller inverters and have heard great things about the Lincoln machines. You'll have to weigh out what you want to spend and do with it.IMHO of courseExpert Garage Hack....https://www.facebook.com/steven.webber.948

Reply:I've ran both the XMT and Invertec v350 quite a bit. Mostly stick welding. The Lincoln gets my vote for a few reasons. The Invertec has much more adjustability for smaw welding. You can really dial in your arc with the Lincoln, much more so than the miller. I also like the arc start and arc stop characteristics of the Lincoln much more than the miller. Not that the miller is a poor machine because it isn't. The Lincoln is just one step above it.JasonLincoln Idealarc 250 stick/tigThermal Dynamics Cutmaster 52Miller Bobcat 250Torchmate CNC tableThermal Arc Hefty 2Ironworkers Local 720
Reply:i got the xmt w/ ln 25s, the college has the invertec hooked up to ln7.  providing both feeders are equal, i can say w/o a doubt, the lincoln gets down on the low end better in innershield.   i can weld 1/8 steel uphill w/ .068 232, and it looks descent w/ the lincoln.   i think the parameters for lowest voltage for that wire is like 16 or 17, and i remember doing the 1/8 inch two volts below the lowest reccomendation.     My miller cant do that.   the lincoln is on 480 at the college.    finally i got on a job w/ the miller on 480 running   long 3/8-7/16 uphill fillets w/ .072 233.   it was obvious when the duty cycle was tired, cuz i'd see a sudden decline in puddle control after about 7or 8 inches.   It was manageable only cuz i was uphill.   If it were flat, it wouldnt have been manageable.    I went to the college, and tried to repeat what i did, and the lincoln ran equal ++++  welds w/ 232  w/o the symptoms of tired duty cycle.    Usually i use my lincoln mini migs to weld .035 nr211.    but got a job welding long, very long splits in some worn out skins of some hopper trailers.    I did it, but i had a difficult time getting machine dialed in, and very tempermantal w/ stickout or when coming to variations in the cracks.    i cant comment on the intervec smaw, but will agree w/ snoproe on the starts w/ miller in smaw
Reply:I tried both, and I definitely favor the V350Pro. To me the XMT has a "spray" type arc, for lack of better description. When I tried the V350Pro, I could not believe it. I finally understood the term, "buttery arc". Man, that was the sweetest arc I've ever seen. I will hopefully own one some day."Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! I sent him over to snag that MIC-4 while tbone wasn't looking!" - duaneb55"I have bought a few of Tbone's things unlike Stick-Man who helps himself" - TozziWelding"Stick-man"
Reply:I found a used Invertec V350 Pro for sale that was manufactured in March of 2007.  It is the K1728-6 Factory model. It has recently been tested out by an authorized dealer and all is good. Any problems with this vintage of machine or anything that it might be missing feature wise that a newer one would have?Last edited by Drilldo; 03-27-2015 at 04:52 PM.
Reply:Never mind. Bought the Lincoln. Looking forward to trying it

Reply:Drilldo, i 'm guessing they are good,at least from the early oughts.   Because i worked at a place that had one permently hooked up to a cobramatic.   so i'd think 2007 is covered.     one of the reasons why i got the miller was, i liked the 30a better than lincons, and the cobra was to much $ to justify and tech to bring the field.  It also seemed there were more millers out there, and there customer servive swayed my decision.  i regret it.   i'd trade my miller in a heartbeat, if i believed i was gettin comperable condition/wear tear
Reply:I'd rather have an XMT, but if the red inverters match the arc if the old Idealarc round tops, the arc is beyond compare on stick.  I didn't know what a "buttery" arc was till I used an IA250 in DCEP.   I said "Ahhh".TA Arcmaster 300CM3XMT 304S22P12 suitcase feederX-Treme 12VSOptima pulserTA161SMaxstar 150STLHypertherm PM45OP setupStihl 020AVP, 039, 066 Magnum

Reply:The Idealarc 250 has perhaps the best single phase arc characteristics but comparing it to an XMT 350 or Invertec 350 on 3 phase? That's like comparing a grape to a watermelon.
Reply:Originally Posted by MinnesotaDaveIf they are even better than my v250-s, then they are super close to an SA-200 and you should have a burning need for one, or maybe two  My v250 is so good though, that the differences above this point are finer than frogs hairs.
Reply:welded with the invertec 275 on job one time {3 days} very nice but I do think the miller cst 280 is a little bit better, xmt  vs.v350, Lincoln hands down, ideal arc also real nice, have a 304 and its real nice does everything nice, lincolns are hard to find in these parts, my old cst 280 compared to xmt on stick I  would give it to cst, only using ideal arc on brackets I cant compare but what little time I used it it was real nice, I wouldn't be scared of kicking the inverter junk out of the way for one, have a few IA on job now might change my  mind
