Just a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Trump/Carson 2016-2024

Look how many members are here, when they post they’re going to build a hitch or trailer, no one says a word. Reason being? Reply:That should work, I would have done it a little different, I like to keep the pin hole as close to the plate it's going thru and gusset on the back, either way, IMO the gussets should all land on the corner of the tube but it's not always possible.
Reply:I know about the unqualified, newbie thing. Any trailer or hitch related thing often turns into a flame fest.

Reply:If you look at most professionally built trailers, the welding is horrible! I think where most of the flaming starts is when that person doesn’t have a track record with the other members. I can think of at least 50-guys here I wouldn’t think twice about walking out on something they welded 200-feet in the air.Don’t pay any attention to meI’m just a hobbyist!CarlDynasty 300V350-Pro w/pulseSG Spool gun1937 IdealArc-300PowerArc 200ST3 SA-200sVantage 400

Reply:See I like how he put the lower side gussets in there for the dynamic side load. I have never done this project but when I opened the thread and seen the first couple pictures I had a design in my head and I got down to the gusset pictures and there it was lol. probably spot on how I would have tackled that. He did a really good job on that and thought it out. I wonder did you seam weld it on the inside? I saw in the picture of your square tubing cut out the wiring behind there. Did you have to remove the harness or was it far enough away from where you welded the backside? Or did you leave the backside un-welded? I would have tried to definitely get the back side for a seamless weld. That will be a rust spot if not welded. But great job none the less!AK, what weld electrode did you use?I really have no idea what I am doing. Two Shop Cats (not Bobcats...real cats)Miller DialArc 250 AC/DCScratch-Start TIG SetupMIG 175Plasma CutterO/A
Reply:No doubt the installation can take as much as the tube can, no concerns there.Great work.However... The design.  If it's the pictured truck and mobile-home combination that are going to e joined up,I wonder  how it could possibly be expected to negotiate practically any turn -to speak of- unless the insert is going to be of significant length? And if the insert is going to be that long it'd bring the strength of even the anchor plate itself into question.

Reply:I'm sure he will find some guy with a HF flux core welder to handle welding those hitches back the on the trailers.    Maybe the guy will join WW to get advice on how to do it....  Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250

Reply:Nice Job AK.Flaming comes from inexperience, not just with welding, but with how to navigate this forum. Many newer guys don't know how to take criticism and or don't accept the knowledge of others as being superior to their own as they haven't had any experience with said poster. For example, anyone who's been around more than a week knows that Zapster is in fact a master welder and knows exactly what he's talking about. However, I've still seen people question his suggestions because they don't know who they are talking too. There are no problems. There are only solutions.
