Reply:There was a thorough post, I think on these forums, as to why American Optical quit making them because they were too expensive/had low yield of good glass from a batch.Cobalt "furnace observation" lenses in Shade 5 and 6 turn up and you can stack 'em, but vendors won't produce any 10s.Auralens won't because of safety issues. This is their excellent explanation to me when I inquired. Because of the low spectral transmittance of the cobalt filter, adding UV and IR filtration via secondary and tertiary filters would render the filter black and unusable, additionally, the added thickness would make it near impossible to fit into a goggle or hood.
