All you Miller fans.  Miller released a new product the MM 350P I got mine 4 weeks ago and is has all but thrown my MM 251 in the dumpster.I was talking with Planet X (Ray) and he said I should post this.  I have a production job about 3000 weldments per month of this part.  I was welding it with my MM 251 and running ~120 parts an hour.  Just zippin' along and as happy as a pig in ****.I was talking' with one of my equipment suppliers, I was looking for a second MM251.  He mentioned that Miller was releasing a new machine and that he had a chance to play with it and was really impressed.  Once he peeled me off the ceiling after showing my the price; and after he re-quoted it without the push pull gun (I haven't even used up a full 1# spool of 4043 in the last year, and most of what I did use was on my own lawn furniture repairs) that I don't need.  I decided to order one.Well now after "tweaking" the welding parameters a little.  I have my part rate up to ~180 weldments an hour.Here the lay out on the welding parameters.(I run hot and fast usually but this is just f-ing nuts!!!)The can is 14 ga. 1008 draw quality steel and the bracket is 12 ga 1008.  Just keep in mind 14 ga. deep drawn part to the wall has thinned out a little typically it has thinned to .065".With the MM 251 at 120 per hour.Mode: Short Circuit TransferGas: 75/25 Ar/CO2Wire: 70S6  0.035"Voltage: 18.4 (between 18 and 19 not much difference)WFS: 350 ipmPosition: Vertical down With the MM 350P at 180 an hourMode: Short Circuit TransferGas: 75/25 Ar/CO2Wire: 70S6  0.035"Voltage: 23.1WFS: 700 ipm (nope not a typo 700!!!)Inductance: 35Position: Vertical down Next is .045 and 90/10 and see what I can do.I was always a skeptic with inverters but this machine changed my mind.  There is no way a iron core copper wound machine can react quickly enough to generate as stable an arc as the microprocessor controlled inverters can, in this machine!And the best part is my shop only has single phase power.  All the inverter that can run off either 1 or 3 phase made up to now always lost output whether it was amperage or duty cycle when running on single phase.  Not this machine.  Damn it the best thing I have had since liberty call in the Philippines (now there are some good stories to tell over a few beers!!)I will attach additional photos later: Attached ImagesRon ShopFloorTalk Millermatic 350P, M-25, M-40 gunsDynasty 300DX, Coolmate 3, Crafter CS-310 TorchTrailblazer 302, 12RC, WC-2430A spoolgunSpectrum 2050Thermal Arc Plasma Welder PS-3000/WC-100B

Reply:Egads, 700ipms and from a blue inverter no less!who'd a thunk it?Diggin your fixture too. So you using vert down to help minimize burn through or other reasons?Now your throughput increase from 120 to 180 an hour with the inverter is impressive, but for the price of the MM350p you could have bought Two PM255's & at bare minimums matched the MM 251's 120 x 2 = 240 cans an hour... Assuming youve got another weldor to run it. And you would not have to worry about the machine going Tango Uniform like you have to with inverters.. ha ha Just havin some fun- good looking work, hope to check out the write up Practical welding did on you, soon."after a long day of doing nothing...its gooood to kick back" Pumbaa

Reply:Shadetree, been thinking about your throughput on these cans. Taking a W.A.G. I'd guess your actual 'weld' time is damn short. But perhaps there is 'production' time to be gained on the fixturing side of things?I have not laid out the bread for the turbo cad yet,but when I get it I'll scribble up some drawings IF I get any good ideas.  Going to try your .035 wire settings Saturday... pretty sure with my transformer machine I'm just going to crash the wire into the weld, but I want to see ..."after a long day of doing nothing...its gooood to kick back" Pumbaa
Reply:Shade, Great Post.I have been thinking about the replacement for my Lincoln SP-255. This might be the machine. I am curious to see what you get when you go to .045 wire, as this is one of the areas pulse machines are supposed to shine. (large dia. wire on thin material)What kind of pulse parameters are you running (or not)?

Reply:I just went to the miller web site- and your welder isnt there- must be so new they havent gotten it up yet. It sounds pretty tempting- I dont do a whole lot of mig, so my old regency/s22 wire feeder is still around- but I do have a 304xmt, and sometimes when we know we have a big mig job to do, we hook the wire feeder up to that, and I also have an XR push pull, and we run that on the 304 as well. And the improvement in mig quality with the inverter is always noticeable. I just had an opportunity to run a mm251 for a day, and I have to say I wasnt very impressed- the weld quality was noticeably worse than with my inverter as a power supply. There was something just not quite right about that 251- and it was a brand new unit, being loaned for the day from the dealer.
Reply:I was told the mm350p will be introduced June 1st.  Miller faxed me the specs so I could wire my new workshop.   I hope to build an aluminum boat when I get good enough at welding. hoagey

Reply:Unlike most inverters on the market today.  The 350P when run on single phase does not loose any output. Reply:From the Miller Literature I see it can use the Spoolmatic 30A which means it must have 14 pin socket in addition to the 10 pin socket for the Edge Gun.If I got a 350P I would want to leave the internal feeder set up for pushpull and would like to run my 22a wire feeder with steel.Does it look like you could run a 22a Wire feeder (it might have to think it wasrunning the internal feeder).Just curious to know if this would work.Thanks,LawrencL
Reply:Andy at Miller told me that the 350P will run the Spoolmatic 30A (which needs a WC-24 on 14 pin machines)  without the WC-24 because it has the 10 pin socket that the spoolgun(s) use directly.No way to run a 22a wirefeeder.So that is the answer to my question.Lawrence
