16 gauge 304 stainless and 1/8" bracket. Did all fusen welds. Was pretty fun accept blowing out that one dang edge lol. This is not the stock location or battery size, its much lower and lighter. I think I saved 15 pounds. I'll put some padding on the inside of the cage. Or silicon like the last one I made. There was no sugaring either. I used 5 cup at 10cfh 1/16 red. Switched to 7 cup at 17 cfh and seen no difference in color so I went back to the normal setup. Attached Images

I won't even have to take it offthis is about the most fancy carb you can get for a bike. Has a really long needle and has roller bearing on the flat slide, hopefully they don't get too annoying because they are a really loose fit. This carb was hacked so bad too lol. I gave it bunch of tlc

Reply:You could back that blown out corner with a copper piece and fill it in then file down the blob so it looks good.If you tack all the corners first then when you approach an end while welding, the 2 pieces will be more prone to flowing together rather than apart. You have to really watch it and kill the arc as soon as it flows together. Also the part heating up will usually cause the end side to blow out easier.Last edited by MikeGyver; 05-07-2015 at 05:23 AM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:Can't if crack if I let off real fast or not so much with stainless?ive only welded it a few times because of the price but man it welds nice like butter lol
Reply:do you mean here mike? I was speed tacking it in the middle. Would you speed tack a corner like that?
Reply:Looks good bud. What (if anything) used to be where the battery is? That's a pretty big space to have just been empty. Will accessing the battery be any more difficult now? And are you adding some sort of strap to keep the battery in place?
Reply:Thanks man!there will be a big k&n filter behined the carb taking up most of the room. I was gona put a air tank in there and horn but got sketched out becuase it was PVC pipe the black kind, that was before I learn how to weld AL. Battery before was really high way bigger and there was no space like there is now. There room for hands now for jetting
Reply:did some surgery
Reply:Yes I would definitely speed tack the corners, especially the ending corner as this will help the metal flow together instead of apart when you weld it there. I wouldn't ever tack in the middle of a short weld like that because you'll likely see a wider haz in the middle and a tack on each end seems more appropriate to hold the thing from moving around as it's being welded. And when you speed tack, lay the wire between the 2 pieces and you can tack even if there is a gap, pulse right on the tip of the wire. This will also leave a humped up tack which can help with filling in the crater at the end of a weld.Last edited by MikeGyver; 05-07-2015 at 04:59 PM.Welding/Fab Pics: www.UtahWeld.com
Reply:You mean butt the filler rod against the stainless and speed tack it so it pulls in some filler?

Reply:When you set the amps to about double you would normally use for the metal your welding and you floor the pedal for a split second. It works really good for 1/8" or lower or for thicker stuff you gota hold the pedal down longer. I set the machine to 120 amps for this. It fuses the metal so quick you can put your finger on the tack right after. I do it with AL now too alot. It's not as forgiving as steel tho no filler used with this technique. I've done it a few times with no hood on and you get a tig sun burn really easy even if you only do a few tacks

Reply:Originally Posted by MikeGyverYou know how when you do this with a gap both pieces just melt away from each other? the filler bridges the gap so the arc can kinda blast the whole area, and adds just enough filler to bridge the gap.
