You may or may not know that I have somehow managed to find myself making a lot of dominoes...... I make and sell them in order to keep myself in consumables and buy fun new tools without having to commingle personal funds into my hobby..... it helps keep it self sustaining and keeps my mind engaged to hand make precision items.....Every now and then I'll get a custom order through my ETSY site and this past week I had three at once......A guy out of California purchased some jumbo's but wanted a box...... I managed to take a couple photos before packaging and shipping....Stainless welds are burnished down to create the brushed look I was going for...... 1" tall to fit 2 rows of 1/2" bones 7 across 2 deep.......Plexi top engraved using my desktop Shapeoko machine with a Dremel spindle and a single flute upcut bit...........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Thats nice, did you ever consider making the top slide into place and only need one bold to hold close for easier opening or putting the lid on hinges for easier opening and again only needing one wing nut to open and close?Of all the things I lost I miss my mind the most...I know just enough about everything to be dangerous......You cant cure stupid..only kill it...
Reply:I have thought of putting together a different design like you mention..... but I have this type pretty much to the point that I don't have to think about it anymore and kind of mindless build it.....one day I'll experiment with other designs but I was in a time crunch on this one so i defaulted back to my comfort zone for speed.......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Nice box!I am surprised you don't have the domino job automated by now. 12v battery, jumper cables, and a 6013.I only have a facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/pages/VPT/244788508917829
Reply:I wish I knew how to automate the process....... I probably need some expensive piece of equipment....I have thought about hiring a high school kid from the local shop class for the summer and have them build them for me...... that's a form of automation right........Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:I think the point is that they are hand made. If he really wanted high production he could just send the specs to a cnc shop and have them made by the 1000s.CnC certainly has it's place but the idea of hand made with occasional peccadilloes is what make them unique. Reply:Well..................yeah..............tis a box..............but a nicely executed one"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Actually, you're light years ahead of me.I have to make a box thingy to hold chains, binders, etc.  And it has to be a temporary mount kinda thing.  I hate dragging around weight when I don't need to.But the rub is.........I hate to mess with MIG, and it's gonna be made from 16ga material.  You're more qualified than I am to do the work."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Nice ! What is the thickness ?  Would it be worth it to get a finger brake to make the boxes ? Then you only need to weld the corners PLUS you have another play toy !
Reply:Thanks all for the nice words...... welding stainless is my favorite and these domino cases bring me much pleasure to make......BD..... I had some 3/8" flat left over from another set of dominoes I made so I used that for the box..... I also have some 14 gauge sheet left over from an old stainless Costco table that I use to cut the bottom..... I then weld it and then burnish it all down.....A finger brake wouldn't work for my boxes because I use thick sides so that I can drill through each side and weld stainless bolts from the bottom side to act as bolt/wingnut clamps for the lid.....However...... A stomp sheer and finger brake are likely the next toys I buy....... Grizzly seems to have the adequate tooling on those two things for my purposes...... If I can stomp up to 16 ga and bend up to 12ga I should be all set for awhile......Precision TIG 185 and MP 210Bobcat 225NTCutmaster 42O/A tanks.... 2 Argon tanks...... 2 C25 TanksFacebook...... Reply:Looks very good.  I just built my first "box" last night from some stainless.  What kind of settings were you using on the welder?  I played with the DC pulse on my machine for the first time and couldn't find any setting that got me shiny, colorful stainless welds.  All of mine were gray like it was hot but at one point I was as low as 40 amps.
