A question came up on another forum and I don't know the answer. Can magnesium be welded with mig? I've welded it with tig, but never heard of welding with mig. Just wondering if it can be done?Yeah, I know, but it'll be ok!Lincoln Square wave 255Miller Vintage mig30a spoolgunThermal Dynamics Pacmaster 100xl plasmaSmith mc torchEllis 1600 band saw
Reply:Magnesium and aluminum can be TIG'd with AC. I know ally can be MIG'd with argon and DC CV and spool gun. So, I would think if they sell wire and a capable gun to feed mag then , probly yes on DC CV and argon.
Reply:Considering the cost of the tig rods, the mig wire would be "holy crap" expensive Last edited by MinnesotaDave; 02-20-2016 at 12:01 PM.Dave J.Beware of false knowledge; it is more dangerous than ignorance. ~George Bernard Shaw~ Syncro 350Invertec v250-sThermal Arc 161 and 300MM210DialarcTried being normal once, didn't take....I think it was a Tuesday.

Reply:Magnesium can even be O/A welded with the correct flux. If that flux still is available is a diffrent matter.
