When I first started using the Dynasty I used 10% more electron Neg on AC with 25% Helium/argon mix....And produced beautiful looking welds....Then Helium prices skyrocketed and I ended up going back to EQUAL on the Electron neg and Positive settings....The beads were still nice but lacked a bit of shininess........Thinking of going back to my setting I used a couple years ago....Whats the most Electron Negative %  anyone has used and been happy with the results just curious since NO ONE was that familiar with the 350 when I bought it with the exception of a few guys.......Two years later Im wondering ?    Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock

Reply:Originally Posted by dave powelsonhttp://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...highlight=zankThe above thread, shows utilizing a very short--but very high spike of EP for great cleaning action. On thicker AL sections, when using this 'reversed' setup, I've had to crank the total amps up, close to max. ofthe 350's output. However, you need to play with this short duration spike (balance set 85 to 90%)--and maybe go 1.5 EN:1 EP for more heat input on the EP side. The AC freq. needs 250-300 CPS to keep the arc stiff and stable.
Reply:Just got home a few minutes ago and was talking with Terry about this question......1.5 EN to 1 EP  doesn't seem like a lot of EN?   I was running 10 - 15 %  EN  with 100 HTZ.  and had to use at least 25% Helium/Argon mix Bal was like 76....Running 275 AMPS Weld current sometimes as high as 310...For the type of part the weld joint liked 100 HTZ.....After pestering Terry for months we both went back to EVEN  on the Amplitude to save money on the Helium and get some heat back into the Part without jacking the weld current way up......Now that I got the Smiths mixer I was curious to see how high I could actually go percentage wise on the EN....So its one of those Over Medicated BC Questions .......LMAO   Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock

Reply:The longer the time I spend in this trade the more I believe guys don't become welders to have a job to pay the billsthere is so much EGO involved that I think is a driving force to this trade.....This applies to a multitude of other guy trades also but we're WELDERS...The introduction of the Dynasty 350 and other Inverter machines that are OMNI adjustable didn't help either....Depending on the guy using the machine talent plays a HUGE ROLE  on the settings....Some guys can make a setting work where others can't.....There are 25 settings that accomplish similar results...I have ALWAYS liked EASY......Easy is much better for me than HARD, regardless of the results...I Talk with John Marcella and see how much Helium he uses and understand the COSMETIC demand from his customers.  So my question still hasn't been answered?  How much Electron NEG can be used before it won't work?  10% works....What about 30 40 or 50%.....I'm going to try it today and see what happens.....I would imagine you would have to crank the weld current all the way up after 50% and 250 Hertz? Are you actually decreasing the EP effects by running higher Bal settings? Can you get the same cleaning action by running less EP and a Lower Bal setting?Last edited by B_C; 04-07-2015 at 01:44 PM.  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
Reply:I got a similar question.  I like doing aluminum on 85% with the EN/EP closer to 75%.  I still see a bit of cleaning each side of the weld.  Most of what I do is 1/8 Aluminum. As for the shinyness.  I find that its more how clean I start with and gas coverage (esp holding the torch in place and patiently waiting for the gas to turn off).  I don't use the auto settings.  Let the gas run 6-8 seconds after the weld (remember I'm at 140ish on the Amps + pedal).Keep in mind I'm not a pro, I'm mostly happy if the two pieces of metal are joined and the bead looks the same/consistant width and same spacing of the dimes.  I have done zero strength or destructive testing. My concern is that the cleaning action might be wide enough, but not deep enough and that I have some residual weakness at the bottom/hidden in the weld.  Fortunately 100% of my aluminum projects have been way over engineered.A friend asked me to fix a gate this weekend.  Small pool gate.  My fear is that it will be closer to sheet metal thickness.  We shall see.I'm going to play with the idea of a larger EP spike (but shorter duration).Con Fuse!Miller Dynasty 350Millermatic 350P-Spoolmatic 30AMiller Multimatic 200Hypertherm PowerMax 1000G3Miller Maxstar 200DX
Reply:you lost me when you said EP& EN on 75%....What are your EP and EN numbers when you set the weld amps at 140?Balance 85? Miller is giving a RATIO not %  and I think thats what is messing with me....Last edited by B_C; 04-07-2015 at 10:00 PM.  Miller Dynasty 350Twenty Six HammersThree Crow BarsBig Rock
