Is this pipe bender worth the gamble of rebuild?

I was given this pipe bender at school.  It needs new hoses and I have no history on it.  I am wondering if it is worth the expense to see if it works.  I don't know if any thing is missing.  I am guessing I could probably find a youtube video and see if I can match up parts.The base is pretty nasty and needs to be rebuilt.Thanks,

Reply:We've got a Hossfeld at our school and we love it. However it pales in comparison to the tooling and extras that you got with yours. Definitely follow through on getting the catalogue and also any information you can on how to operate it. As to the hoses, nothing special there as the pump for that system is relatively low pressure, likely 2500 to 3500 max. Although you should certainly look at the nameplate on the pump to verify that. Hossfeld was the forerunner to many mechanical bending, punching, and forming machines of the day. Best regards, Allanaevald

Reply:It has a lot of pipe bending accessories, but its not just a pipe bender.  Its an everything bender.  Flats, rounds, angles, whatever you can imagine within its limits.  Hosfield is still in business, see if you can get a copy of the manual.If money is tight and you are uncertain how it will fit into your program you can still operate it manually.  My Hosfield is manual.  If something is to hard for me to pull I just get out the OA torch and heat the bend area.  For a school manual may be a better choice anyway.  The flattened tube with the dogleg in one end is the handle extension for manual mode.

Reply:”Rebuild”  ...add hoses, fluid done...  Sell most of the stuff to recoup your loses...oh it was free.  An electrolytic bath might put you out 10 bucks... Then a little oil...  Tough "rebuild".Nice score.  I paid 500 for one with several pipe dies but probably less than half the dies and homemade hydraulics.  It is still sitting unused after 5 yrs.  I use a manual Am bender.
