IT ALL PAYS THE SAME RIGHT??i thought this would be kind-of fun, and i know we all have them. this is by far not my worst (there's no human feces invovlved), but the worst i am working on right nowweld this:and this:and if you could make 30 something of these:it will be easy, you can park here (photo from halfway up tower)our structure is fine for holding up you and the silo'sand dont worry, it only rains enough corn-dust to collect 1/8" per hourthese silos are junk. steam is put in in about three places via interior manifolds. most manifolds have broken off inside which is why the corn is now getting out (through the ripped through bolt-holes) using ln-25's with stainless hard-wire, and an electric winch to run our tools, leads, etc between the 5 levels of surrounding structure. only one silo shut down at a time, so that means working next to the rest of the leaky ones. lots of lead to roll out, lots of silicone, oil, and junk to clean off. they say its still pipe, and im good at pipe so this should be easy. . . . . . .. .Last edited by 92dlxman; 05-22-2015 at 09:38 PM.bosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:we tried stick-man.it was last year i think i attempted a quick band-aid, and thats when talk of replacement started. if i have my ducks in a row, this job was supposed to be at least a dis-assembly so we could install new gaskets, but was bid too much.so now they are paying us t/m to chase leaks if this was bid-work, i would have quit already for the sake of the company lol, we could be out here for years. have all the confined-space stuff in the truck for tomorrow. gunna be a fun daybosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin

Reply:Keep us updated with lots of pics.Good idea Sandy, I never thought of that. However, I have never been around a dusty situation, when welding either. What can he possibly do about the dust? It would be a job to empty and air out those silo's, wouldn't it?"Where's Stick man????????" - 7A749"SHHHHHH!! Reply:for me the worst is welding old alumn. intake ducting. Especially on the old radial engines! the mechanics never clean them, and I know why, but thats okay, I charge 125$/hr to clean them and the mechanics don't mind spending their customers money! old dirty magnesium sucks too. I got nothing really to complain about though. Reply:little better today, found a faster way to get material to the top (125' boom, not quite full stick though thank goodness)now, i tend to hold my head fairly high when i walk, but being up here, on a 6' ladder, handrail below my feet, and trying to weld over-head turned me into quite the princess. harness? you bet! did it help my mental state? no. knees were audibly clacking together lol. nothing to lean/fall againsttoday was adding structure to the roof (whats left of it) above the silos. adding beam, tie-off points, etc for lifelines and rigging to remove the tops for our lucky confined space entrants. i hate my welds being so directly responsible for life, but even if they break, new members are locked above flanges of existing.i lucked out though, entry occurs tuesday, and i will be waking up in beautiful ridgecrest to do some work at the navy-base then. im sure the silos will be there when i get back thoughbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin
Reply:and no work happens until silos are fully empty and steam shut down, locked/ tagged, and also the grinder on the bottom.they can only shut one down at a time though so that will slow things downbosses stuff:trailblazer 325maxstar 200my stuff:sa 200fronius transpocket 180100 amp Lincoln w/f97 f350 DITKevin |
