Well, I finally finished this bumper today.I've been working on it off and on for several months.Started out with roughly an 8 foot stick of medium weight 8" channel. And here we go.~JohnJust a couple welders, big hammers, grinders, and torches.Work will free you.Men in dirty jeans built this country, while men in clean suits have destroyed it. Reply:I'll still put my money on the moose winning. The bumper might survive, but the guard won't stop it..No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Reply:Any guard the height of the hood will not stop a moose. They go over the top right through the windshield anyway. This is a brush guard, not a moose stopper. Nice work by the way.ChrisAuction Addict

Reply:I see the front end of an Oliver in the background Ok, I'm settled down nowNothing is gonna stop a large animal from doing damage.  Way of the world. This thing looks good for general use out in a pasture.Close in the gaps with some 'spanded' metal, and ya got a winner"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/Originally Posted by AKweldshopThanks, but quite frankly I don't see the humor in it.Yeah, sorry Samm, I'd better get some pics posted so you know what's going on here.BTW, I drilled those holes under the vertical pipes just for you. That really is irrelevant. There's thousands upon thousands of trucks running around with nothing. If I hit something, I hit something, brush guard or not.
Reply:Originally Posted by AKweldshopI welded it both sides, I really don't think I'll use it much.In hindsight I should've ran some more of that 3/8"x 3" flat bar from the frame mounts, to the receiver tube, just like I did on the outside.

Reply:You're lucky.... mine just bailed and ran off with the bingo grannies, so I'll be looking for my own leftovers tonite. Reply:I like the way you matched the lines of the grill, headlights and hood line. It all blends in good. In my eye it looks better than a lot of the 'big on bling' bumpers."The things that will destroy America are prosperity at any price, peace at any price, safety first instead of duty first, the love of soft living and the get rich quick theory of life." -Theodore Roosevelt

Reply:Looks good from here. I would worry more about damaging the frame in the event of an impact than the bumper itself. On a side note, and not directed to your proyect only AK, I always wondered what is the purpose of having a solid unbreakable bumper that will not deform at all in case of an accident... I always thought that a bumper is meant for protecting ALSO the passengers inside the vehicle. The stronger the bumper, the more energy needs to be dissipated somewhere else... such as the frame of the vehicle and the bodies of the ocupants! I can understand solid bumpers in rock crawlers and such. They are meant more as body armor while scrambling through rocks than impact protection for the ocupants but... on a road vehicle... not sure.
Reply:Crush zones are important enough to be accepted as science.  The bumper shows skill and ingenuity but if there is an impact with a corner at even slow speed there will be a bent frame.I know from personal experience.
