Hi,is my welder ac or dc?will it run 6010 rods?

Reply:Thank you for the quick answer,Unfortunately 6011 is not available in my country.The funny thing is that 20 minutes from my home there is a factory that make 6011 but only exports overseas.

Reply:If you had some 6010 you could tell if a welder was AC or DC. It is a polarity check rod. The welder in question looks pretty low end which is most certainly AC. I've never seen a single phase DC only machine. All the single phase with DC have AC and DC output.

Reply:I would agree. ( AC input)  transformer (AC output )symbol, 180.6011,6013,7014,7018 whatever you have available. With low OCV, and AC output only you could struggle with 6010 even if you try turning up the amps , but if you only have 6013 you can still do a lot with that. Reply:I'm thinking it's an AC machine just from what I see, theres no way to change polarity, 6010 is a DC rod, you're going to need to find 6011, 6013, 7014, or 7018AC, these rods are just about the most popular general purpose rods out there for the hobbyist, I've been welding since the late 1960's, when I started I was a teenager, I'm self taught and mostly a hobbyist, but have welded in my career & had to pass a basic plate test in order to replace the cow catcher and steps on a 125 ton locomotive. That said, for me it's hard to believe that there's nothing available where you live, heck, find a computer with internet access and order the rod, my last 2 orders were done on ebay, I've also ordered on AMAZON and another welding supply place online, I've bought wire & rod at Lowes and Home Depot, I've also bought wire and rod at NAPA, and our local ACE hardware. It's out there, you just have to look. Reply:Thank you all for the advice,Ac welding machines are not common for hobbyist here so thats probably why i cant find any ac rods. And also the suppliers wont waste their time for 10 pound order for 1 client.I just orderd a pack from amazon, shipping was little expensive. The price sum up to about double, but it still worth it. And also even the common cheap dc that most hobbyist have cant run 6010 so 6011 is a great solution (if i understood correctly).Originally Posted by Welder DaveI'm thinking mostly of transformer machines where you can actually strike an arc.
