Looking at wire steel brushes for angle grinders. I see a lot of them come in stainless steel, as an alternative to plain steel bristles. I also understand that if brushing stainless steel, you need to use a stainless brush. Will the stainless steel wheel work as well as the plain steel wheel for all other means, or are there places it will not work as well or last as long? If I can buy one as multi-purpose, I'd be willing to spring for stainless if it works all-around as well.
Reply:You can use stainless on anything. Once you have used it on mild steel you can contaminate aluminum or SS tho. If you work with all three metals you should have a dedicated brush for each.
Reply:Ok, that really helps and makes it simple. Get the cheaper brush and as needed pick up a stainless for stainless only work. Thanks, MJD!
Reply:Just a NB side note: On SS that will be in a marine or wet environment, be careful with brushing, even with dedicated SS brushes. The scratches made by brushes / wire wheels are a good place for so-called crevice corrosion to get started on SS, which can be a biotch to get under control once the steel becomes "active"...
Reply:A variable speed grinder will increase wire wheel life. It will help to keep wires on the wheel instead of flying all over. Those wires like shirts too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
