Hypertherm 45 CNC questions

I have had my 45 for about a year now, and have been researching the CNC tables on here since I bought it. I have narrowed it down to a few choices, and wanted to run it by you guys. I like the plasmacam 5 x 10, it appears to be ready to go out of the crate, would be up and running quickly. The last few weeks I have looked hard at the bull tear, looks like I could save some cash for some sweat equity, but most of the information I have found seems to be on the companies forum, might not be the most objective. Next is how to charge. I am not asking how much your rates are or trying to get too personnal here, just wondering how you charge. By the job, hour, minute, inch or? I feel comfortable with shop rate I currently charge for other work, I just am not sure how to incorporate it into pattern cutting. My last question(for now) is what cut capacities in the real world can I see with my 45? Thanks for any assistance on this.
Reply:I have the same plasma running on a Plasmacam 4x4 DHC2 table for about 4-5 months now. I love it! The software has been easy for me to learn and use, and I am NOT a computer guy! I know a guy who has a Torchmate table, and I like mine much better. As for thickness, per Jim Colt it will pierce and cut 1/2" on a table just fine. I haven't done anything that thick yet. Reply:Rancher,The Powermax 45, when used on a cnc machine with a full function height control (senses the plate surface before each cut, sets proper pierce height, indexes to cut height immediately after piercing...then uses arc voltage feedback for height during steady state cutting) can pierce and cut 1/2" very well. The occasional cut on thicknesses to 1" can be done with edge starting...and cut quality is also very nice on materials down to about 26 gauge...as long as your cnc machine can achieve cut speeds in the 200 to 250 inch per minute range....slower top speeds can cause poorer cuts on very thin materials. The 45 has a CPC port for electrical interfacing that works when using the machine torch....if a hand torch is used for a machine application then some wire cutting and splicing will be necessary for the interface. The supplier of your cnc machine will suggest the best interface connections. Jim Colt Hypertherm
