1976 Miller Dialarc 250 AC/DC Questions

3 Questions:1. I have as stated in the title, a Dialarc 250. I want to know what it would take to add a foot pedal/remote receptacle to it and where to source the best priced parts for it.2. I would love a HF box for it, but unsure which model would work best for my machine. Also, if I were to use a "newer" HF box with a built in remote receptacle on the HF box, could I use a pedal on the HF box to control current?3. The last and final thing is, I've had this machine for close to a year now and all of a sudden it has developed this problem of tripping the breaker when the power switch on the machine is in the "off" position. So long as it's running, it doesn't trip the breaker, but a few seconds after I switch it off trips the breaker. If it is the switch being bad, where would I locate one and would it be too difficult for me to switch it out? I'm very mechanically inclined, but have never had the cover off of a welding machine. With it being an older, transformer machine, is there residual electricity I need to worry about while I have the cover off and the machine unplugged from the wall plug? Thanks,Preston
Reply:1. If it is a dialarc and not a dialarc HF, then there is no option to add a foot pedal. If it is a dialarc HF then you wouldn't need an HF box2. For the price of an HF box (they run like $500-600 around here), you are maybe better off selling your Dialarc and buying a machine made for TIG, like a dialarc HF or one of these: https://houston.craigslist.org/tls/d...595139139.htmlI would even suggest you go look at a Harbor Freight Pro-TIG 200, which is probably only $2-300 more than buying an HF box, and it will give you pulse and some other adjustments that you won't have on your Dialarc with an HF box.3. The switch ought to be a standard type switch that any electrical supply house ought to be able to supply. Transformers don't store energy, but capacitors do. That machine would only have large capacitors if it has the power factor correction option installed. In any event, if that's what you are worried about, just disconnect the machine fully and wait a couple of minutes. Those caps would drain all their juice pretty rapidly.Miller Multimatic 255

Reply:HF or non-HF version. Standard receptacle, toggle switch and terminal ends. If you don't intend to TIG aluminum you can just scratch start w/o HF. You'll need the appropriate (not 14-pin) hand or foot remote. Reply:I want to be able to tig aluminum, that's why i want the foot pedal and hf box. I already tig with it on carbon steel and really like how well it works
