I was just wondering what materials y'all have welded on?  My list goes as follows;  plain carbon steel (sae 1018),  medium carbon steel (sae 4130), HSLA (A36, A500), Titanium (Grades 1-5), Nickel alloys (Inconel 625, Hastelloy C-276), Aluminum (3000, 5000, 6000 series), Stainless Steel (300 series) and Copper (Cupranickel 90/10 copper/nickel).Just wondering what variety of metals people have experience with.

Reply:Mac Thats the most expensive material i've never seen we wont even think about using unobtanium! Have you seen the price of that stuff lately its out of this world
Reply:Is unobtainum related to transparent aluminum?
Reply:Just the typical boring 1018 - 1028 steel, some 303 stainless and various 6000 series aluminum.  Once, just for a laugh, I attempted to fabricate a copper box using my Pro-Mig 175 MIG unit & 100% Argon.   I used it like a TIG machine with a piece of 14g copper ground wire for filler.    It boogered up the electrode tip a little, but the joints flowed well. There are no small projects

I'd just as soon have my nuts slammed in a car door. Some of you guys sound like yard birds. My hat's off to you, I consider myself an average welder. My friends back home can weld in a mirror faster and better than I can do it looking at it. Nothing teaches you how to weld better than shipboard work. Tight spots, long hours. Kinda miss those days.Weldtek
