Short version:I wound up with a Hobart Stickmate LX 235 AC /160 DC, and a Lincoln Power MIG 180C. I started out on the Hobart and now have started to learn MIG. I'm using a welder it for general lawn/garden/household/mud truck maintenance and repair. I'm going to start doing some chassis / cage work on the truck this winter. If I have to get rid of one (finances) which should I sell? Is there a good reason to keep both?
ReplyIs there such a thing as too many welders?ong Version:My father gave me a Hobart LX 235/160 and some other goodies (new) as a present. He had bought the stuff for himself, and never really got around to using any of it. I started to teach myself stick, bought a better mask, bought some different sizes of rod... got pretty decent with anything less then totally verticle.I decided that I wanted to go MIG so I could get exhaust tubing and the other thin stuff a little easier. I was also sick of changing the rod every time I started to get into the grove (I know wimp). I arranged for a friend to purchase one of my Miller Elite masks, and all of my stick equipment for a decent sum (about $700 including a new in the box 220V 50A 50ft extension cord).I sent him, and the Hobart home with the promise of payment in a couple of paychecks, and promptly went out and bought a Lincoln 180C, leased a cylinder, etc. etc. (about $1000 worth of goodies). My friend (yes still a friend) is feeling bad about his current inability to pay me. He ran into some stuff, and just can't come up with the money. I offered to let him keep the welder for longer (has never set up or used it a this house, so there is limited interest). He is giving the welder and all the goodies back...I'm trying to decide what to do with 2 welders. So the questing is in post one.ThanksRusty
Reply:If you could afford to, I would just keep both of them.

Reply:One thing to consider is you will not get a lot of $$ for the welders you have and when the time comes that you need one again you may end up paying more to buy one.For this season I would keep them... It does not coast you anything to keep two and you can use them.  Only reason I would sell them off would be to buy a third "all in one" unit and feeder.  Me!
Reply:I have 5 engine drives, a plug in stick/tig, a 220 MIG, about 6 sets of torches, 3 wire feeders, miles of cable, and much more. To much stuff, I think not, I need more.Disclaimer; "I am just an a$$hole welder, don't take it personally ."
Reply:Tozzi is right...you never seem to have the best tool for the job no matter how many you have.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:keep em, used welders fetch squat on the market. and the day you sell it, you will need it. trust me, been there done that."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun  Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
