I was looking at a couple of different welders a econotig/tigmate or jumping upto a syncrowave 200. I wanted to get some opinions on both machines. My goals are to get a few UA certs and also do some hooby work with alum and stainless. I am just wondering if the syncrowave has more options than I need right now and if the econotig has enough features to get me into the more complicated stuff. Thanks for all the great info JS
Reply:I just went thru the decision you are looking at. I chose the syncro 200. I found that if I got the package without the wheels I could save about $150-200. (paid $1850 for it new) This brought the machine within about $300 of the best new econtig I could find. I don't regret it. Its a great machine. I might be able to use a few more amps doing alum 1/4" but I don't plan to do much alum that thick after I build the rack for my truck. I also looked at the dynasty 200dx but at 2x the cost I couldn't justify the $$ for what I would get on a "learning" machine.I think the 200 would be the best choice, get a little bit larger machine with more options now rather than rebuy later. However, I think I saw someone listing an Econotig in the used section and the price might have tempted me to change my mind. You might look and see if it's still available if you are on a tight budget.Any questions feel free to PM me and I'll go into more details as to why I picked that machine.
Reply:I'm right there with DSW.  I had settled on the Econotig but a friend pointed out that for only several hundred more I could have a lot better machine with the SW200, so that's what I got.   I've welded everything from copper to heavy aluminum cast and I am very happy with the machine.   I do wish it had a little more power for the times when I do heavier aluminum but no matter what machine I had, I'd always wish it had more power.   If I had it to do over, I'd go right back to the Syncrowave 200.
