I'm looking for ideas on sliding doors for an entertainment center I'm building. The middle of the doors will be expanded metal so I need the doors to not snag on each other. I don't think that will be a problem if done well. I'm thinking I'll use 1/2"x1/2 angle for the tracks to give you and idea of size. The entertainment center is 22x64, I'm not sure what to use for the door frames that will allow me to weld the expanded to and look nice. Just could use some thoughts.
Reply:maybe you could find some small 3/8 or 1/2 " channel that could be built around your expanded metal that would cover the unsightly edges. it might be hard to find but i have seen some at my local salvage yard.BTS Welding

Reply:the angle sounds like a great idea for the tracks, but for the frame I would use some 3/4" or so square tubing to get a truly clean look and a great fit. Of course this all depends on what look you're going for and what size you are making the doors, you would also need to go up a little on the angle and putting a small spacer in between the tracks maybe 1/8" X 3/4" flat would do nice. I would be glad to help if you want draw me a quick sketch of your ideas and I will take a look. I have done alot of ornamental iron work , gates, fireplace screens, screen doors etc.Last edited by valltex76689; 11-23-2006 at 05:47 PM.Building mudtanks and other oilfield equipment day by grueling day.---------------------------------------------------Victor preformerMillermatic 251Miller Thunderbolt 225Too many grinders and the likeGone but not forgotten Miller Bobcat 250Comming soon Lincoln Ranger 250
