Hello All (again),Ed here still on the hunt for my first tig.  What do you think about a 22 year old Syncrowave 250 with full 160 argon bottle, water cooled torch kit, array of consumables, in good shape for $1400.  Versus a demo deal Precision Tig 225 with 3 year warranty for under $2K (air cooled torch, no bottle, with cart, no consumables).  I am looking to tig aluminum 1/8 wall tube almost exclusively.  I need to act quickly or they'll both be gone.Thank you in advance!
Reply:I would go syncrowave then your already set up to tig aluminum. It has the water cooled torch kit but does it also come with a water cooler?Lincoln Ranger 250 GXTLN-25Lincoln Magnum SG and ModuleAirco HF BoxMiller 304 XMT CC/CVMiller 60 Series FeederMiller Syncrowave 250O/A SetupIt's a dog eat dog world and i'm wearing milkbone underwear
Reply:All of my machines are blue, but personally, I would pass on a 22year old machine. For peace of mind, the Lincoln is the better deal. That said, the water cooled torch kit makes the Syncrowave worth a second look if you're a bit of a gambler. They are both priced low.
Reply:How many hours are you going to be welding at a time.  I love blue, and the water cooled is a MUST if you are going to be welding a lot of hours. The newer machine is nice, you'll need that warranty, but it needs to have a water cooled system at that amp range.
Reply:Or you could buy both, strip the syncrowave, then re-sell it as a machine only.

Reply:Well guys, thanks for your responses.  The more I thought about it, and considered my lack of experience with these machines (or repairing them), I decided to pass on the older machine.  I am going to go with the new PT225.  It's a little more money but won't "break the bank" and whole lot more piece of mind.  In speaking with the nice folks at Miller, the down side was the question of availability and cost of replacement parts.  Most likely, they'd have them but they would be expensive.  I'll have enough on my mind worrying about learning the process.  I'd rather not be worrying about a machine hiccup.  Plus, being new to tig, I'm thinking the newer features and simpler controls might help.  And the input amperage is around half which helps.  I have 208, not 230.  The water cooled torch would be nice, but my stuff will most likely be 1x1 and 1x2 aluminum tubing, and some seams on sheet metal enclosures.  Smaller welds by most comparisons.  Thanks again!
