Well as you can see see this old workout bench is far from straight... Witch I guess is a good first project sense I'am gona have to actually make it level...After Welding these support plates witch brings it up 1/4" in the middle, and allso will addmore surface area to weld the table to. I knew to expect a little distortion.. and I got kinda trigger happy with 7018 on the back side to weld it.. obviously I kinda noticed  and the right side is quite a bit straighter but still sags a bit.... Whats the Best way get the plates back level?any tips or hits would be appreciated... I really dont wana use torch and a sledge hammer... Would heating the opposing side, upside down be a good way of going about it? Attached Images
Reply:The backbeads on the underside of the round plates actually made the bend worse.Put a support under the sagging ends, enough to slightly lift the bench off the ground, then do a bead on either side of the round tubing on top of the plate.  You could do the same with your O/A outfit if you have a rosebud.  The shrink from the bead, or O/A, will, in conjunction with the upward force, bring it back somewhat."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/

Reply:Yeah, and take it slow by degrees.  Don't try to get it straight all at once.  I've done that, and wind up with the damn thing bent TOO FAR THE OTHER WAY"Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
Reply:Across the table on the round plates.  Sorry.And BTW, the beads you put on the tubing would have worked in the same way if you had added a little force in the direction you wanted it to bend.  Hanging the bench by the ends etc.  Opposite force works real good in conjucntion with the heat."Any day above ground is a good day"http://www.farmersamm.com/
