Finally got some forward movement on the TV stand project. I plan on making 2 shelves that slide in on top of the square tubing that will be installed later. The shelves are going to be 11 ga. with 1/4" x 1/4" square aluminum welded along the edges of the shelves, and ground flush to give the appearance of thicker material. Attached Images

Reply:I kinda used the existing stand as a guide to what shape I could use. I wanted it to look like it belonged to it. The initial design phase of any of these things is fun. Its so easy to do it on paper first. Or now that I have a weld table its soapstone on metal.

Reply:It's all aluminum. 4" pipe, 1 1/4" sq. tubing, 10ga sheet with 1/4" alum. sq stock welded to edges of shelve and ground down to give the apperance of thicker material. In hind sight it would have been best just to have taken the hit in the wallet to buy the thicker material, then doing all the prep work the edges needed. But it gave me a little practice. It has been a refresher course.
