Well, what is the first thing most people build when they get a new welder? A cart is my guess. That was my first one anyway. After I got my new Dynasty 200 DX and the slightly used Coolmate 3 I went right to work. I modeled it after the Miller cart and I guess that is very obvious. Here is how it looked when primed. The legs are 1-1/2 inch square tube and the base is made with 1/4 inch steel plate...... But I used 8 inch rubber wheels with a ¾ inch diameter axle. I cut grooves in the axle for circlips to locate it on the cart. Additionally, a circlip on the ends hold the wheels on.I also chose to put 2 inch diameter swivel wheels up front under the gas bottle rather than like the Miller with only a flat plate sitting on the ground. This way I do not have to tilt the cart to move the welder. Better for my purpose. The Coolmate has exhaust vents on one end, so I slotted the legs of the stand at that end to allow it to breath freely. Probably silly, but I like the look of it anyway.I had pics taken when I finished the paint job and before it was loaded with the equipment. However there was a compact flash card problem and I lost those shots. So all I have is with everything loaded and it really hides the cart. For the bottom shelf holding the Coolmate 3 I used expanded metal. For the middle and top shelf(s) I used 1/16 inch thick stainless steel plate. I took a 1-1/2 inch diameter abrasive pad to the stainless plates to buff them like an aluminum firewall on a car.All shelf pieces just drop into place inside the 1/2 inch angle frames.I had my man at the PPG store mix up some Color Concept (DCC) Miller Blue and he did an excellent match.I primed the pieces with DP48LF after an acid wash and then shot the DCC blue the following day. The final coat of blue got mixed 50-50 with 2042 Clear to give it some extra depth......... pgDynasty 200 DX_set up to run on 3 phaseCoolmate 3MM 251 w/ Spoolmatic 30AHTP 625 Micro Cut Plasma CutterVictor O/A RigBridgeport Mill_3 phase10 inch South Bend Lathe_3 phaseQuincy 325 2 Stg. Did you do all the machine work & sheetmetal yourself? You sure did a fine job if so.PPG does, indeed do a good job on paint. I use their Shop Line paint for mast machines I refinish. Nothing super great, but looks good & priced reasonable. Their single stage A/E with a clear w/hardner looks slick for a shoestring budget paint job. Your paint is on the money with 3rd generation Miller Blue & looks super.Very nice!!
Reply:The whole cart consist of two pieces..... the base and the tower. The two are fastened together with (8) 5/8 inch machine bolts. I pattern drilled the base plates and legs together and bolted it all up. Then I welded the shelf frames to the cart and welded the tower together as I went up. When paint time came around, the 8 bolts came out and it was as pictured in the primer shot, whth the base and tower being separate pieces. I was afraid I would not get the base and tower back together with the paint and primer thickness on there. (Yeah, I have done this enough times to know better) The two front tubes went into the base tightly and the other tubes at the rear thankfully went on the backside of the base. If I had made it so all 4 tubes went into the base it would not have gone together. Once the bolt holes were close. all it took was inserting an ironworkers 7/8 inch wrench with the pointy end into the holes and the taper lined things up. It is solid as if it were welded together as one piece.......... pgDynasty 200 DX_set up to run on 3 phaseCoolmate 3MM 251 w/ Spoolmatic 30AHTP 625 Micro Cut Plasma CutterVictor O/A RigBridgeport Mill_3 phase10 inch South Bend Lathe_3 phaseQuincy 325 2 Stg.
