Always interesting to see how they do it in other places.
Reply:That is about three quarters scary to me. The finished product looks like some farm repairs that I have had dumped in my lap to fix the right way.
Reply:They don't care about consequential injury. Their legal system is an ied isn't it?
Reply:Now that's some quality grinding there    who says you need eye protection
Reply:It had a guard...
Reply:Oh, then we're good..    although I guess I shouldn't say much about grinding like that..... Glad to see I'm not the only one that still uses a pipe wrench on things...
Reply:Should watch the one where they're rebuilding batteries.............Mike
Reply:Given the available equipment, what they probably pay the poor bastards, and what they charge for the repair...……..it's not a bad job (shrug)Working conditions in the United States, during the first part of the 20th Century, weren't much better.  Men got seriously injured until the unions put a stop to it.
Reply:Given the working conditions and lack of resources, he performed an incredible task....And a rock feels no pain; and an island never cries.
Reply:We've all seen people be proud of many less well done repairs they've done. This doesn't seem bad, compared to a lot of cobbled together junk we see out there.

ReplyDOT in Pakistan is cracking down on truckersooked pretty good to me. That was a heavy duty frame
ReplyDOT in Pakistan is cracking down on truckerslus they totally abuse those trucks.   Often way overloaded.   Max load is when the bed is overflowing.   Majority of the driving is probably dietTiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:It just goes to show ya' a thousand spot welds are better than one long bead that could crack
Reply:Most truck frames are heat treatment.I have never seen so many layers. How long will the patch last?Dave  Originally Posted by hddnisAlways interesting to see how they do it in other places.
Reply:I thought the pipe wrench was a nice touch!Notice the windshield?Lots about that truck was...ummm...interesting.I have been to a lot of third world countries...this video is about what I figured it would be.  Most places it is make it work with what you have...
Reply:I have to say on one hand I admire the repair and what it took to make it. On the other I'm really glad I don't live there.Guess that's why I posted it, seems more poignant around Thanksgiving somehow.
Reply:MY dad used to do business in the 3rd world in the 70's. He said one place a guy or guys feel off a steam boiler and died. Work slowed for a short period of time then back at it. An old coal miner said for every rule in here 3 men had to die or get injured. figure thats how a lot of rules and regulations come about.
Reply:Feather clucker...Do not believe everything that you think.
ReplyDOT in Pakistan is cracking down on truckersid you see the entire chassis rebuild one?   Tiger Sales:  AHP Distributor    www.tigersalesco.comAHP200x; AHP 160ST; MM350P,  Spoolmatic 30A; Everlast PowerTig 185; Thermal Dynamics 60i plasma.  For Sale:  Cobra Mig 250 w/ Push-pull gun.  Lincoln Wirematic 250
Reply:There was another video of a clutch rebuild. They had a decent looking Grinder and even the disc rebuild looked somewhat decent. But the flywheel surface after grinding was incredible to say the least. Looked like the bottom of a dried up creek bed. And they put it together.
Reply:The heat cracking on the flywheel was the result of the clutch burning out, not the grinding.  That sucker was overheated big time.I saw it all the time.  Drivers teasing the clutch, not popping it.  You should always start in 1st gear, and just sorta pop the clutch (just a fast engagement, not really popping it).  Morons always start in higher gears when running empty, and tease the clutch.  NEVER RIDE A CLUTCH.I have over 20yrs on 2 tractors, and about 9 years on one tractor...…………………..all with the clutches that were on them when I bought them (and all my stuff has dry clutches).  I've only replaced the clutch in the pickup once......and that was because the fingers snapped, not the disc, or flywheel wearing.  Never ruined a clutch in a big truck either.  And I spent a lifetime double clutching......not that slip shifting BS.Double clutch with the side of your foot.  Not the ball of the foot.  Using the side of the foot allows you to feel what you're doing.  You don't need to mash the clutch pedal to the floor...….all's ya wanna do is depress it enough to take the torque off of the transmission, and allow it to slip out of gear when you move the lever.  Let the gear speed equalize with the rear end, and slip it back into the next gear same same.  Smooth as silk, and no stress on the driveline.  Only time the pedal should be fully depressed is when you come to a stop,, or before starting out.  This can vary with the truck....some need a bit more movement on the pedal....all depends on how tight the linkage is.
Reply:Be the truckOnly discernible movement you see in my leg, is when I bring it off the floor to hit the pedal.  My foot stays on the floor all the time between gears.Watch the lever...…..you can see the "feel" as the teeth engage...it's that smooth. In the lower gears, it's sometime advisable to ease the clutch a bit when engaging to keep the shock from hitting the driveline, but it's a very limited thing.  Just enough time to hit the throttle a bit to rev her up between gears to match the gearbox before engaging the clutch.  I hate it when I see guys go thru the gears,, and the truck jumps and twists when starting to pull again.  That's what happens when you do that stupid slip shifting routine....good way to ruin a truck.
Reply:If I was driving that truck the clutch would get used once. Not even to stop only take off, if I’m starting on a down hill I wouldn’t even need it
Reply:sams legsI could not drive that truck famersammm. Is the switch for a two speed rearend? A friend of mine used to drive an old truck from the 60-70's it had a 2 speed. I need to look at one of those. Does it have two different ring gears?

Reply:Yeah, I have a vacuum switcher in my 54' gmc dump. never seen the lever shift ones but heard of em'.
Reply:This old critter, 1970 with a 69 SA200 had the vacuum shifter too. It popped a diaphragm on me one day and I had to use vise grips on the hose to get home. Chevy dealer had it in stock, that I couldn't believe.

Reply:Samm, I know it wasn't the grinding that caused that cracking. But I would be waiting to see how long that flywheel lasted., I can see it go kaboom quickly. And when I was driving, did just as you said.
Reply:no glasses, no gloves, open toed sandals, lol.  Bet he is good because he has to redo every job a week later , gives him plenty of practice. Reply:I have naive question. If I recall he removed three layers of C channel or the equivalent. That is not how it came from the factory is it? To be honest the kid seemed to work well with the limited tools and materials and I tip my hat to him.
Reply:I was a diesel mechanic some time long ago. I used to drive part time on the weekends for the same company. Best advise I ever got from an old driver was "your foot is either on the clutch on the floor or it's off the clutch". Never left him a clutch with no free play after that.
