Aluminum trailer

A customer just picked this trailer up or 1500 bucks.  It's in great shape and very light.  I think there is about 1500 dollars in parts and material in the thing.  The sticker says 3000 lbs.  He wants the front stiffened up with a treadbrite cover for the tongue area.  I started with some odd-ball 2 1/2" aluminum channel, coped it out for the 4" side channel and tacked it in.  Then I cut a sheet of 1/8" treadbrite a little undersized so I can put a nice weld on the edges.  There was a 1/2" gap between the jack and the plate for the wires.  So to keep things nice looking, I milled down a piece of 1/4" x 2" flatbar to fit.  I put a grain finish on the material before tacking it in.  I used a s.s. wire wheel and ran down the areas that I am going to tig to make things a little easier on myself.  The machine was set to #4 on the dig side of the balance and at 160 volts.  3/32 tungsten and 4043 3/32 filler is what I used.  Also, to keep things steady on my torch hand, I used a chair to steady my arm. Reply:Nice job Brain!!!And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.
Reply:Good job. Looks like a very nice trailer.
Reply:I've always enjoyed looking at your aluminum welds, brainfarth.  Nice work, and thanks for sharing how you do them  (I like using the chair for torch support... good idea!)
