I am currently enrolled in welding school and would like to start doing some more side work to make some cash, but being that I dont have a shop I can call home I am wanting to do some mobile work. I have been searching craigslist and I am conisdering these two machines.http://charlotte.craigslist.org/tls/3523543001.htmlhttp://charlotte.craigslist.org/tls/3562377458.htmlI looked at the lincoln yesterday, it works, but will need a new battery. it has been sitting. the miller I know he will come down to 650, I havent seen it in person yet. any one of these any better than the other? the miller looks in better shape from the pics, I know the lincoln has the CV feature though. any insight or experience? I know the lincoln is a good machine, never heard much about this model of a miller though
Reply:I'd say it depends on what you want to do. Years ago I got dispatched out of the hall to a saw mill to do all flat welding with 5/32", 7024. All the company had was one of those little Lincolns. I told the sup he needed to rent a bigger machine. He laughed at me and said that machine could handle anything I could throw at it. Reply:I'm really just wanting to do basic repair. Farm equipment etc. whatever I get offered. It probably won't get used like that one did! Also nice to have aux power I guess
Reply:Reading both adds, it looks like the lincoln is machine only. The miller is really clean looking. I haven't seen a old one in that kind of shape. Plus you get goodies with it.     I would run it and weld to check output and idle up and down when running. Do the same on generator side. If you have access to a volt meter check voltage output at generator too.   At $750.00 in  my area that would be cheap cheap . I wonder how long the seller had it ?
Reply:It's been for sale for a while he has it listed on a local 4x4 site for 650. They both have leads. But the miller is clean. Would the miller be able to run a suitcase?

Reply:thanks for the links... now on the other end of the spectrum. in two weeks there is an auction in town, lots of vantage 400s and classic 300D welders going up as well as some diesel SAs I believe. what would a vantage be worth with say 5k hours? I know the machine would be overkill but if i can make some cash with it and flip it later on for more than i bought it for, why not?
Reply:The Lincoln puts out 220v power whereas the MIller doesn't, also the Lincoln has a constant voltage (CV) setting which'll be useful for powering just about any suitecase or wire feeder.The Lincoln generates about 8k aux power and the Miller's about 4k if I remember correctly.Lincoln SA 200Esab Caddy 160Thermal Arc 201TSMiller Dialarc HFI don't like making plans for the day because then the word "premeditated" gets thrown around the courtroom....
Reply:update. I decided to hold off and not get either machine. went to the auction and won a vantage 400! of course i would haul a trailer up there, to win the only machine on a trailer. Im going back in the morning to  pick it up. Now for welding leads. Reply:I went and looked in the manual, 2/0 awg is recomended for up to 150 feet. I will probably start around there. I guess my main question is, would you buy from that company?
Reply:elctron beam terchnologies runs some good prices on lead.  they don't have prices on there website.  they told me the prices fluctuate from month to month with copper prices.  i don't remember the quote they gave me for 2/0 a couple mopnths ago but they blew everyone else out of the water.    they also said anything over $250 ships for free.
Reply:thanks for the help everyone. I went to my LWS and they were reasonable, so I got it from there. Also got to finally try out the vantage. Welds pretty good! cant wait to start doing some work with it
