So I was hanging out with some friends, talking about how I was in absolute awe of some of the pics of welds I'd seen on this forum, and drinking sodas.Granted, it was only soda, and not a full case of beer as you might expenct from these pics...But I was bored and had an oxy-acetylene rig, and a propane tank since I don't have any acetylene. And I just had some TIG aluminum filler rod, and some flux I dusted over the cans that didn't really stick to it. I know it's probably impossible, but I wanted to know just how impossible it is. Keep in mind I completely suck at welding--I'd be interested to compare my results against someone else's oxy-fuel attempts just to get a feeling of how much of it is me and how much is the fact that, as I understand it, oxy-fuel welding soda cans is borderline impossible and a total waste of time.Consider this thread "For amusment only". "To tell which polarity to use go to the bathroom and pour some water down the drain. If it runs clockwise use straight polarity. If it runs counter-clockwise use reverse polarity. Or if it just gurgles use alternating current." -RandomDave
Reply:I bought this stuff from the State Fair one year (over 10 years ago) and never used it.  It was a type of aluminum rod that was used to reapir aluminum.  I never thought of this stuff as welding but more like soldering.  I used that stuff to repair an aluminum A/C line that had rubbed through on my vehicle.  The trick to the successful repair was I had to rub the area with a "clean" stainless steel brush and to scrub the affected area with the stinless brush till the underlying metal was shiny. Then heat the area and rub the filler rod on the area till the rod flowed and made the repair.  So far, I have no leaks and the A/C system is functioning as normal. The filler rod filled the hole in my A/C line and is holding fast.  Personally I do not think I would use that rod for structural projects though.  That all said, looking at that soda can, appears like you needed to clean the base metal with a stainless steel brush.
Reply:Its possible, about 8 years ago when i was 9, I was sitting next to my dad, we were at some type of party and some guys were talking about how good they could weld. so my dad told them he could weld a six pack of pop cans together. no body believed him and we were in a shop so there was a mig/tig welder in the corner. long story short, 15 people got educated and a guy lost a $100 bill. I haven't a clue how he went about it. But i'll ask tommorrow.Drop the Mask... Attack the Task... Miller 250 AC/DC.Red 1983 Camaro z28 305V8, Crossfire Injection. T-tops.
