I totally forgot today was the last day this year..... really.... until about an hour ago......So today... Saturday.... my normal day off from work and parental responsibility.... I worked in the garage.First i practiced gas welding. I got better as the day wore on and with a hammer and a vise was finally not able to break my work.Then I pulled out the MIG for a project idea I had just all of a sudden........ A consumable holder.... since they were taking up too much room in my tool box..... I decided to put them on the wall.......The back plate is 3/16" and the poles are 1/2".My SP 125 MIG is not suited for this thickness by any means. I know this.......... but since it is not holding children or people, I did it anyway.I know I need more practice on welding around a circle since I had to do one side.... stop.... and then do the other side....... lots of porosity...Here are some pics: Attached ImagesLast edited by Fexal; 12-31-2011 at 08:08 PM.

Reply:Your 125 is quite capable for that application!The poles (dowles) are 1/2 inch! Not sure what size rod becomes a pole but 1/2 isn't even close. Reply:I think a rod becomes a pole at around 5 feet. My fishing rod is about 4 feet +, so there ya go! I took a page out of my welding book and photocopied it, now I have three pages... practice, practice, practice. Yer welds look good, maybe a little heavy for this app, but give 'er. Reply:Happy New Year All!Gordon, I like your idea of drilling all the way through. In fact, I used my brand new DeWalt drill and did just that very thing and welded them on the back too. I forgot to mention that part. The fit up wasn't perfect though and I had tacked them on the front before I welded the back. Then flipped it over and welded the front too.I took an over kill approach to it just for shiggles.Here's to my first morning cup of coffee in 2012! I hope everyone made it home in one piece last night!
