Another bed for my daughter

My youngest daughter wanted a queen size bed, so I started one today. She found this design on the internet. The material is 16 gauge, post 3x3 square tubing, the rest is 1 1/2"x 1 1/2" square tubing. I still need to make the bed rails, and make an order from Kings Metals before I finish. Here's a few pics. Reply:Really nice work, Cajun Welder.  You're creating a memory your daughter will treasure forever.  If you haven't already, spoil her rotten.  That's what daughters and granddaughters are for, and that's # 1 in our job description.Contrary to popular opinion, I do NOT have a pet turkey that craps molten steel.  It's a goose.

Reply:Thanks for all the compliments guys. I'll post pic when I'm finished with it. Christmas just passed and now I have to look for a mattress and box spring. I'll have to make another one, when my second daughter leaves for LSU this summer.Happy New Year everyone!
Reply:That bed is very cool.  I keep looking at it, and with the background behind the headboard it looks like the bed is about 30 feet long.  Optical illusion with the way the lines in the headboard go.Really cool shape, and looks to be excellent execution.Nice job.

Reply:Great welds. Reply:Thanks guys!Gamble, the caps are made using 2 3/4"x 2 3/4"x 1/8" material, then fitted to make a corner weld and then used a sanding pad, ( I only had some 60 grit), but will get some finer paper to to really dress it up before painting.Oh, I forgot to mention Gamble that the bed comes apart and will fit easily through the door.Last edited by cajun welder; 12-31-2011 at 08:02 AM.Reason: forgot to address the door
Reply:That is really nice! My daughter who just moved out and got her first job needs a bigger bed. I may try to tackle that one myself, although I don't think my welds will come out that well.Lincoln Pro Mig 180Everlast PowerARC 200
Reply:Your welds are first rate, of course.  But the really impressive part to me is the design you came up with.  I think it's great.  I did a bunk bed for my kid a few months ago, but it was more practical necessity than actually being creative.  Yours will be around for generations.  Mine will become a source for some steel scrap -- maybe to use to make his next bed.And I agree, it's a trick making them unbolt into flat sections.  I think mine has about 30 threaded inserts and bolts in it.Last edited by Jack Olsen; 01-01-2012 at 09:44 PM.Jack OlsenMy garage website
Reply:Awesome bunk Mr.Olsen!
Reply:Jack, look at the smile on his face, priceless. I love the bunk beds, and it doesn't have to become some scrape. When the time comes, sell it to recoup some of your money and then you can start the next one. Kids at that age love bunk beds. Did the little ones decide who got the top?
