Hey SundownIII,I just picked this unit up. Is this one similar to the one you use? It indicates O2 or CO2. I have (2) empty 330cf O2 bottles downstairs in the machine shop & thinking (1) with O2, & the other w/CO2..... sound like a plan to you? Reply:Mine is modified from one that mixed argon..helium and C0 2..Got rid of the C02 stuff and it works great!Good find there Denny......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.

The first one I got, I posted it here(the SS one), is for Ar/Hydrogen & SDIII indicated it takes a bit to convert them. I found this one, so I grabbed it. Reply:Yorkiepap,Nice snag.Actually that looks more like my Thermco Ar/CO2 mixer than it looks like any of my Smith mixers. All my Smith mixers are the Proportional Standard 2-Gas Mixers, which have the built in flowmeters. (2ea 299-006 Series and 1ea 299-011-1B)I don't have the particulars on that specific unit. If it does not have a built in flowmeter, you'll have to use a separate flowmeter only (no regulator). For my Thermco unit I use the Smith H1240 (Selec-O-Gas) flowmeter (no regulator) and control the delivery pressure (30 psi) to the flowmeter with the regulator built into the Thermco mixer. I have a hard plummed 50' gas line running from my Thermco mixer to the flowmeter. I made a bracket for a magnetic base (I used the base off a cheap Grizzly dial indicator) and attached the flowmeter to that bracket. I simply attach the base/flowmeter to the welding machine I'm using. (with a little piece of clear vinyl to prevent scratching). That way, I set my flow right at the welding machine rather than at the mixer. If I need additional reach (very infrequently) I just add an inline gas splice connector and add another length of gas hose.You're also going to need two regulators (not flowmeters). One for inert gas (Smith 30-150-580) and one for CO2 (Smith 30-100-320). If you plan to use O2 vs CO2 you'll need (Smith 30-100-540) or you can use the O2 regulator off your Ace/Ox setup. I've found Cyberweld to have the best prices (about $90) for the Smith regulators.Your LWS should be able to fix you up with the short hoses needed to connect the regulators to the mixer. My LWS made me up my short hoses and the 50' hose and a 25' hose all from a 100' spool of 1/4" gas hose. Was about $75 including all the connections if I remember correctly.You'll really like being able to switch from a spray mix (92%Ar/8%CO2) to a short arc mix (75%Ar/25%CO2 or 80%Ar/20%CO2) with just the turn of a couple knobs. I use a 330 of Argon and a 50#CO2 which stay hooked up to my Thermco mixer. Using gas from the larger bottles is the cheapest way to go. The 50# of CO2 in the setup seems to last nearly forever. You'll loose a little gas purging the lines when you change gas mix, but it's in the noise level when all things are considered. (On my wirefeeder I have a purge capability without feeding wire/on the MM251 I just flip the tension knob off on the drive rolls).Hope that helps. Reply:Hey Jay(SDIII),Thanks for the info. & pics. By the look of the setup & fittings furnished, it appears the user had a flowmeter setup on the top of the unit & simply set his flowrate there. I was surprised to get the (2) locking keys with it......generally they get lost & the tumblers are removed to open/close the covers. I'll post some pics of the setup when I get it installed. Reply:Hey Steve(7A749),Thanks. I'll let you know what I may need once I get the large tanks exchanged & decide the best location in the shop. Gonna try to set up the system so all I have to do is just use (1) line to feed whatever unit I will be using. It will be really handy to set the needed mix for most any application.
