I have posted pictures and haven't had any help yet, im at the point on my build that I need some information on how to latch down the lid on my front rack box. I don't want hinges on it. I want to remove it completely and have it open some times. Here is the link: http://weldingweb.com/vbb/showthread.php...de-by-side-UTV thanks in advance.JobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
Reply:Why not weld some vertical pins on it that stick up through the lid, and use hairpins or linch pins to hold it on? Like hood pins.
Reply:hadn't thought of that, would work if I can keep the height down to a min and tight enough. really looking for something cleaner without the vibration driving me crazy. thanksJobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
Reply:You're going to have vibration with most any design if you don't use either a tape-on weatherstrip, rubber grommets, or something similar. There are tons of ways of doing what you want, including using hinges. You can make your own hinges from round tubing and rod, and turn them both the same direction so that once you pivot the lid up, you can pull it off to the side. You can find many different types of latches at a basic supply place like Buyers. I'd suggest you go to their website and see what's available.EDIT: Don't forget about the rubberized T-handle hold-downs (not really a latch), similar to what holds the hoods on Jeeps down. Commonly used on ag equipment to hold access doors shut.Last edited by tbone550; 11-25-2013 at 11:10 PM.

raw LatchesSounds like you want a "draw" type latch. They will keep constant tension on the lid. If you really want to keep the rattling down, take tbone's advice and use foam like the type used for pickup canopies with the draw latches.Millermatic 200Hobart Handler 120Victor O/A & Ramco BandsawLincoln 225 ACSnapOn AD HoodMiller XMT304/22AHypertherm Powermax 1650 G3Lincoln Idealarc DC600 w/Extreme 12 VSMiller Digital Elite "Joker"
Reply:Thanks guys, im starting to get an ideal into this hard head of mind. foam seal and jeep latch sounds like it might fit into my plans well. should look good with the black rubberized paint. thanks againJobSmart MIG125Lincoln AC225-SLincoln Pro-Mig 175Dewalt GrindersRidgid ChopsawIR Garage Mate CompressorAny thing worth doing, is worth doing right.
