I have a 2001 dodge 2500 with diesel and flatbed it is a pain to fill with fuel the line gets full of fuel between the tank and where you fill it.  I was just curious what solutions you guys may have come up with for this problem. Thanks
Reply:Was some sort of OEM venting removed when it was flatbedded ?
Reply:No it was left all the same
Reply:Had a 99 Malibu that did the same thing and was a known issue. Oddly though it only occurred during winter. As I recall it was emission related to a vent and before going too deep I would just check to make sure something wasn't pinched when making the conversion.
Reply:I had a f350 utility body with the same problem. When they put body on they made flat spot in the fill hose that would back up.I made a small 6-8 in high ramp that would tilt the truck to make the fuel run better.
Reply:Thanks for the replies so far.  I have been using a block to tilt the truck however it doesn't seem to help much.
Reply:I had the same problem on a '79 F-150 but I found that if the truck was leaning slightly to the right it didn't get the air block.  I found a local gas station were the ground was slightly sloped next to the pump so I started always parking there when I filled the tank. I didn't have a problem as long as I parked in that spot at that station so I just lived with it after that and never did try to find out what was causing the problem.  I drove nothing but Chrysler, Dodge and Plymouth vehicles for a long long time and I never had that kind of problem with them but it seems to rather common with Fords.  I guess there's something different about the fuel filling systems in them that makes them susceptible.

Reply:I would check if it has a tank vent solenoid that is working properly (not sure if diesels use EVAP like gas engines). Also does the fuel filler neck have slope towards the tank? I know my Ranger filler neck is a fuel hose inside a vent hose and if that vent hose was filled with fuel due to slope away from the tank it would act like a plumbing trap. Probably why guys are parking with the fuel cap on the uphill side.
Reply:My grand son had that problem in a Ford Focus .turned out that a spider made a nest in the external vent line .
Reply:Most flatbeds they screw up the filler neck making them flat and/or screw up the venting, kinking it, blocking it, etc.RyanMiller Multimatic 200 tig/spool gun/wireless remoteMillermatic 350P, Bernard/XR Python gunsMiller Dynasty 350, Coolmate 3.5 & wireless remoteCK WF1 TIG wire feederMiller Spectrum 375 XtremeOptrel e684Miller Digital EliteMiller Weld-Mask
